Donny Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 I hope this is the right place to post this. I've got a DVD+-Dual layer burner (in my sig) that the BIOS and Windows sees fine, and it works as far as puting CDs in and reading, copying, etc. On the same power cable "chain so to speak" I've connected 2 different combo (DVD ROM CDW) drives, identical Samsung. It seems that I've fried both of these drives. The first, no lights at all, the door won't open, its dead. The second drive, lights come on, the door opens, but it won't spin up. I can put either one in my P4 rig, and get the same results. Now the question is, when I sleeved my cables, I'm thinking I must have inverted the two black wires in the middle (red and yellow on either end of a standard 4 pin molex connector). I know very little about voltages, and foolishly I assumed that if I indeed inverted these wires that the drive simply would not work, not burn up. What troubles me is that everthing else on this "chain so to speak" works fine. The first drive and 4-4inch CCFLs. I buy these drive out of a bin at a local Micro-Center, and they are OEM (so getting one DOA isn't out of the question) and relatively cheap, but not so cheap that I can continue this. Any insight? BTW, I would like to extend a sincere thank you to this forum for all the help I've received throughout this build.
