Chivalry Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 is it just me or is all the chipsets on the Ultra-d NF4 boards run so hot?.... Atm my room temp is 22 C and even at Max speed my chipset i reading 47 c in smartguardian :0(.... the PWMIC isnt much better ... reading 45 c atm also.. Both at max speeds... dunno what else im supposed to do.... already got 4 case ans going full guns... is tis usual or is it just me mobo that seems intent on meltdown .. Hymack Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 Its pretty typical, but you can do some things to improve the temps. Try increasing the airflow near the chipset fan by putting a fan directly venting air at the chipset. Some people have also tried removing the thermal pad and used arctic silver 5 for a better thermal interface, but to mixed results. The other options are to move your vid card down to the lower slot by enabling the SLI jumper. You'll only be running at PCIE-8x speed, but you won't see a difference really. You could replace your stock GPU HSF if it is the type that blows the hot air in the direction of the chipset with one that doesn't. There are a couple of chipset fans that you can use to replace the stock one, but they usually require a little bit of modding so the vid card doesn't hit them. I think these chipsets are rated to run up to 60 or 70C, so don't fret too much.
red930 Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 Airflow through your case and wire management are 2 tips.Another would be to go into your bios and set the fan for the chipset to 100% at 40c or lower(under hardware monitoring i think). Under load my pwmic is at 42c and the chipset is at 41c.
Protostar Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 Man o Man .......... You guys are running HOT....! SmartGuardian on my rig shows my CPU is 27 deg C , PWMIC is 32 deg C , Chipset is 32 deg C. CPU cooler is a Zalman 7000 all copper. Chipset has a small Vantec copper chipset cooler. By the way ccokeman.......... nice overclock....! I have my 4000+ at the same speed as you. ( 255x11) You guys might look into better cooling cases. I have a full size tower & it cools awesome.
red930 Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 I have an Antec super lanboy with 5 120mm fans 2 in and 3 out. A larger case would help i think. Plus i think the heat from the hdd's ends up on the pwmic and chipset.
oddyager Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 I'm curious what your room temperatures are like. I read alot of these temp data and people usually don't mention that they're living in an icebox! In anycase, these are my temps: Room Temperature: 72 degrees F (roughly 22 C) - with AC on CPU: 38C Mosfets: 45C Chipset: 48C Room Temperature: 85 degrees F (roughly 28 C) - no AC CPU: 42C Mosfets: 47-48C Chipset: 52-53C CPU has XP-90 + Panaflo H1a model with AS5, and the chipset has stock maglev fan cooler and AS5 applied. I'm guessing its my case that causing the slightly warmer than usual temperatures even with the AC on. The stock 120MM intake and exhaust fans are relaltively weak and can't suck in enough cool air to cool the stuff down.
red930 Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 I am in a room that varies between 74 to 78f on most days. temps really dont move much at all. If i dip into the 60's i do much better.
Protostar Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 I live in Sacramento,Ca. The temps here lately are in the 80's. My CPU is 81 deg F. PWMIC is at 98 deg F & the Chipset is 102. It's 7:55 pm ,window is open & outside temp is 78 deg F. I have a full size tower which helps in the overall cooling I think.
