LanParty UT nf4-sli-D FX-53 instability@stock clocks

Recommended Posts

Hi, I recently upgraded my system to the below specs.

DFi LanParty UT nf4-sli-D

AMD Fx-53 (939) (Clawhammer) w/ CoolerMaster Hyper6 heatsink/fan

Corsair TwinX 3200xlpro (2-2-2-5)

PC Power and Cooling 510w Deluxe psu

BFG 7800 GTX in SLi

Generic Floppy

Generic DVD-Rom

Western Digital 320Gig SATA hdd

LaCie PCi FireWire 800 Card

LaCie BigDisk 500Gig External HDD

I have my ram instlled in DIMM 2 and DIMM 4

I moved my processor and ram over from a stable Asus A8V-Deluxe motherboard. It was running at 200x12.5 2500mhz.

When I built my new system i used the same ram timeings and voltages. However, I have massive instability problems. Windows cannot boot with out getting a BSOD. The windows installer is not stable enough to run eahter.

I do know that my Ram has some issues with my version of the A64, however with enough voltage to the ram i seemd to overcome it on my other rig.

The werid thing is, if i set my multiplyer to 200x10 i can run stable at the default bios settings sans 2.7v to ram. However if I attempt to go to 11 or a 12(stock) multiplyer the instability kicks back in. I also, figured maybe my ram timeings were too tight, so i set them at 2.5-3-3-10 to no avil. Same problems occured.

One possibility I have considerd is my PSU is not feeding enough power, or enough stable power. Infact, it only has a 20pin ATX connector on it, I am useing a adaptor. I am also useing adaptors for my video cards. However PC Power and Cooling uses the same unit, with diffrent cableing for their SLi model. I also have a friend who is useing the same unit to power a 3500+ and two GTX's with no problem.

I also considerd the possibility that my processor has gone bad, but want to try to diagnose everything else first before i have to send it in!

Any suggestions for bios settings i can try? Or can someone recomend a beta bios for my ram that may help?

Thanks in advance!

The board does require a 24 pin native power supply.

Alright,

If i have to, ill buy a seocnd 220$ psu. However I would like to run this buy you guys.

I currently have the PC Power and Cooling Delxue. It is a pritty nice PSU, i paied 220$ for it about 6 months ago (my big mistake). Basicly alot of people raved about how good they were, i wanted a really stable PSU so i went for it. Then about 2 months later they release this model, PC Power and Cooling 510w SLi. I called them up and they said that the unit brick unit is the same. The SLi model is approved by nvidia for sli at slizone.com

My question is, since the power supplys only has 3 rails, dont all the wires corresponding do the same voltages connect to the same rail. So i wonder if the 20 to 24pin converter witch just splits 4 wires can do the same thing? Maybe less efficent? Not sure.

But if not hte PC P&C 510w SLi model, can anyone reocmend a diffrent model to try? Mainly im just worried that it will be a costly experiment to see if it fixes my problem!

Update,

After my friend (who also has a AMD 64 system) came back in town we swaped out ram and passed memtest86 5 times and looped 3dmark05 for 3 hours no problems at all.

My ram never liked my cpu, but some how i managed to make it work on my old board, not sure what i did. But it really hates my system now!

YES YOU SHOULD DEFINATELY SWITCH THE psu TO A NATIVE 24 PIN. I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU GETTING A 600W. 2 7800GTX'S ARE VERY POWER HUNGRY.

Hm, I think ill definatly have to do that in the future, but i have to cough up for new ram first :(

However, from that list I think I will definatly go with the PC Power & Cooling SLi model, so far my current one hasent let me down yet, and looks pritty good too.

Thanks again guys!!!

You know you can send your current 510PCP&C to them and they will modify to the newer SLI version and a few folks have said for about 1/2 of the cost of new.

RGone...

Oh wow!!! I will definatly have to do this then!! Thanks for the tip!! :cat:

similar setup to mine - i had trouble constantly with 310-p

went up to mays release and that helped allot - stable @ 250x10 - but if i tried to reboot - system would always bsod

gots the newer 1606 bios - wow! - works a treat all at same settings - in fact my ram now runs no probs @ DDR500 - 2.5-3-3-7 @2.9v - whereas with the older bioses it wouldnt go lower than 2.5-4-4-8

The bios names are the dates, i run the "510" bios which is in fact the 10/5/2005 bios ;o

618 then translates to 18/6/2005. That's how i think it is atleast :D
