GermaniumGenie Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 I am building a computer for someone, and he wants 2GB of memory. I have heard that running 2GB of memory (512MBx4, all slots populated) on DFI nF4 boards is not stable. Is this true? This system will not be overclocked at all or maybe slightly. Thanks. BTW, what kind of chips are used in this memory anyway? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The complete system specs: Processor – AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice Integrated into Chip FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor – Retail Motherboard – DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard – Retail - $135.00 + $3.50 Shipping Memory – pqi TURBO 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory – Retail ^ TWO OF THESE FOR A TOTAL OF 2GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820141154 Video Card – SAPPHIRE 100121 Radeon X700 128MB 128-bit DDR PCI Express x16 Video Card – OEM Hard Drive – Maxtor MaXLine III 7L250S0 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive – OEM DVD Burner – NEC Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE DVD Burner – OEM Floppy Drive – NEC Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive Model FD1231H-302 – OEM Case – Thermaltake SOPRANO VB1000BWS Black Steel/Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case – Retail Power Supply - XCLIO XClio 450BL ATX 450W Power Supply 115/230 V UL, CUL, TUV, CB, VDE, FIMKO, DEMKO, NEMKO, SEMKO – Retail Monitor - AG Neovo F-419 (R12) Black 19" 12ms LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 500:1 0.294mm Pixel Pitch – Retail Card Reader - SABRENT SBT-ICR42B 42-in-1 USB2.0 Black Internal & External Card Reader/Writer – Retail
Angry_Games Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 im using 4x512MB of older Buffalo TCCD PC3200 @ 2-3-5-2, 2T, DDR400 (no overclock) this is extremely stable (many hours of work + Battlefield2 later) a Venice/San Diego should be able to run 4x512MB of memory @ 2T, DDR400 memory frequency. they will NOT run 1T @ anything (wont for me anyway) Clawhammer/Winchester/Newcastles will usually only run DDR333 @ 2T
davidhammock200 Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 Power Supply - XCLIO XClio 450BL ATX 450W Power SupplyNice PSU's, but to meet the DFI 480W+ requirement get either their 480W or 550W models.
GermaniumGenie Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 Alright. Thanks. Do you know by any chance what type of chips are in this memory? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820141154
GermaniumGenie Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 For him, I don't think the ~$39 difference between 450W and 480W is worthwhile.

GermaniumGenie Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 Yeah, I read that I don't think he will need DFI support anyway. LOL...$40 is just not worth it!
davidhammock200 Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 Yeah, I read that I don't think he will need DFI support anyway. LOL...$40 is just not worth it! You can get the Antec SmartPower II 500W for $67, the Fortron Blue Storm 500W for $72 (free shipping, too!) or the Antec True Power II 480W for $79. Any of these meet the requirements.
