Shinobi Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 I got 2x 512mb sticks(Dual Channel Kit) of OCZ PC3500 EL BH-5 last week. Anyway, i had major problems getting them running at 2,2,2,2,11(at ANY speed) in my Infinity and i knew they were capable of it, but i just got errors in virtually every test in Memtest and it wouldn't boot into Windows, best i could do was 2,3,2,2,11. Anyway, i decided to try different slots so switched from Slots 1 & 2 to a Slot 1 & 3 configuration and straight away i had no problems running 2,2,2,2,11. Problem solved, or so i thought... Decided i'd try Hellfires 3EG Infinity Rev2 after hearin its the best for 2x 512mb modules and BH-5. So i loaded optimised defaults, cleared cmos, flashed bios etc and straight away the problem returned. No problem i thought, i'd just flash back to Hellfires Rev3... Flashing back to Hellfires Rev3 never fixed the problem, it was still there, so i thought i'd try different slots again, no change, in fact i think it got worse... All out of ideas i thought i'd try the 6/19 Official and that didn't fix it either. For one last attempt i thought i'd try some more switches when flashing. Normally i just used /QI/CC/Sn/Py as it recommends on DFI's site but this time i used CC/Cd/Cp/Sn/Py/Qi/e (Cd to Clear DMI, Cp to Clear PnP, E to return me to Dos after the Flash) and that did the trick. Anyone else ever experienced anything like this before? Don't know whether it was the switches that helped or flashing after the 6/19 official, like i'd done originally... But i'm thinking more than likely the switches, and they made a huge difference to my overclock... I'm considering flashing to Hellfires Rev2 again but this time using those switches(and maybe after the official...), but i'm a bit wary in case it all goes wrong again... FWIW DiamondFlash command line for N32LD827.bin A:AWDFLASH NF3LD504.BIN /cks/sn/py/cc/cd/cp/wb/ld/qi -show update bin cksum -no original bios backup -program flash mem -clear cmos after programming -clear dmi after programming -clear PnP data after programming -always program boot block -destroy cmos cksum and no sys halt for 1st reboot -qualify flash part # with source file
Shinobi Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 Thanks Karl I don't usually use Diamond Flash, especially considering i use the modded Bios. Then why don't they list those switches? I never realised using other switches other than the ones DFI recommends could make such a huge difference... Usually i'd always use the /CC/Cd/Cp/Sn/Py/Qi/e switches but this time i thought i'd just stick with the ones listed on DFI's site, and i'm thinking thats where my problems lay, thats my only explanation really. Shinobi Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 Thanks for that Karl I'd never thought to check out the switches that were actually used in the Diamond Flash, thats useful info. I'll check to see if the nF2 Images use the same switches... Its just got me wonderin, if using just those recommended switches have caused such problems for me, i wonder how many ppl it could possibly have caused problems for in the past with them not realising? Especially ppl flashing back to an older bios that doesn't have a DiamondFlash Image, like the 27/11/2003 thats recommended for 3200+ users on these nForce2's... Just a thought And i was just flashing to different versions of the same Bios so i didn't think it would matter as much(but i was wrong lol), and a lot of ppl probably wouldn't realise to try using the additional switches like i did. red930 Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 and a lot of ppl probably wouldn't realise to try using the additional switches like i did. That's cause you already knew you'd been there b4,so you backtracked methodically to find out why,is it possible that flashing the same bios twice had any affect?I've heard others say they flash the same bios 2 0r 3 times
Shinobi Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 No i tried that and it didn't work. Gotta be the extra switches imo. Thats the only thing i've been doing different in recent Bios flashes. I'd never have imagined it could have affected my overclock so much though... Like i said, i couldn't even run(or boot into Windows) underclocked at 2,2,2,2,11. Used those switches and bam, problem fixed, and i'm overclockin 2,2,2,2,11, 1T, Dual Channel no problem I'm just glad i got my overclock back lol
