eNtoS Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 everything was working fine for like 2 days (since i set up my pc), now after i installed all the drivers/patches etc. i went on to overclocking my system (details in sig). after 20 mins of memtest 86+ 1.55 (no errors) i booted windows. edited my forum signature and went on downloading superpi and pcmark05, when all of a sudden i get a popup on the taskbar saying "nvidia network controller, a network cable is unplugged", this dissapears shortly after. then again i see the pop up, then not then yes then not, etc.... u get my point . my cable modem shows no traffic (ie no blinking light) during the "a network cable is unplugged" then again it does, then not, then yes, etc. after a few restarts and cable switching nvidia<>marvell im back online but my nvidia etehrnet adapter doesnt work. (im running htt 220 now just in case)
3 Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 I use the nvidia ethernet with no problems. I like it better than the marvel because it supports segmentation and checksum offload, where as the marvel only supports checksum offload. I actualy could never get the marvel one to work... Make sure you stick with the official bios' from DFI is all I can suggest... It could be a faulty CAT cable.

It could be a faulty CAT cable. ive used the same cables for years the "official" 310 bios doesnt allow me to use the yellow dimm slots, and i cant fit the memory in the orange ones because my cpu cooler cnps-7700 overhangs slot 4. after further testing: whenever i try to change my ip settings for the nvidia ethernet the window stops responding (so i have to restart). ATM im using the marvell ethernet to connect to the internet, this one works. im quite happy about this, but seeing as this is after all the secondary ethernet adapter i was wondering what its disadvantages were (on a 2mbps cable inet connection). when i disable the nvidia ethernet, i cannot enable it again. this only happened AFTER overclocking. btw: does the hardware nvidia firewall also protect the marvell? 3 Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 Well the only difference between with marvel is that it does not support segmentation and offload and the nvidia one does. Umm, have you tried bringing the speeds back to stock?
eNtoS Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 stock also doesnt work anymore still unclear bout this: "does the hardware nvidia firewall also protect the marvell?"
3 Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 There is a hardware firewall? How do you use it? I think your CAT cable may have gone bad.

blinky Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 I'm sure there was a discussion about this and it's a problem with some versions of the Nvidia LAN drivers - Angry Games had the same issue (HINT use the search button). Try using the LAN driver from an older set of NForce drivers.

Guest Qarl Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 Isn't the big difference between the nF4 LAN and the Marvell the fact that the Marvell is on the PCI bus and the nF4 is not. Thus the Marvell can never get anywhere near the 1Gbps bandwidth due to the PCI bus limitation? BTW, my nF4 LAN stopped working too. 3 Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 Well, PCI is limitd to 33MB/s, and there is no way anybody here is going to get that kind of speed, but theorectically, yes you are correct.

Yeah, but you may want Gigabit speeds for you home Gigabit LAN. Also, it's sucking up bandwidth on the PCI bus that other things could be using.
