Wraithlok Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 Hey all.. here is what i am looking at so far.. suggestions? workable? non-workable? feedback appreciated as always! Thermaltake Armor VA8000BWS (154.99) PC Power and Cooling 510 SLI-PFC (229.00) DFI Lanparty SLI-DR (194.00) AMD 64 X2 4200 (585.00) OCZ 1GB (2x512mb) 184 Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 600 Platinum Series PC 4800 (255.50) 2x BFG 7800 BFGR78256 GDDR3 (619x2.. 1238.00) SB Audigy 4 pro 8 (209.00) 2x 24 GB 10k rpm Serial ATA Raptors (332) 1x 320 GB WD Cavair SATA 7200 rpm (145) Sony DVD+R/RW DW-D25A (48.99) Sony 16x DVD / 48X CD-ROM DDU1615/B2s (22.99) Koolance EXOS-2 External Water Cooling Kit (377.92) Misc: Targus Defcon Authenticator (60.00) Total Build Cost: 3852~ Questions: OK.. if I do want to go to 2 Gigs of RAM.. would you go just 2x 1 GB OCZ mem sticks or 4x 512s? I've opted to get a lower chip for now and go for better video cards... reason why I went with X2 was that I hear the video games coming out in the future will utilize dual processors more than single.. (plan on keeping this system 3 years at least). Suggestions/comments on this? Cooling: I will most likely upgrade fans etc, however, the Koolance seems like a decent kit, a bit pricey though but I like how it's external.. I can not find ANY reviews on this sucker.. anyone hear anything about them? website below koolance Case: ok i know everyone says Lian.. but again cut cost here a little.. and I hear great reviews about the armor case (tons of expansion etc). Video: OK so go with the brand new wiz bang 7800's OR wait until they come out with the 512 versions first (same price you think by the time they come out.. or will they be a lot more $$?) cpuz Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 Seems like you're gonna have a nice system! Good for you! Let us know how things work out! PS: I'd go 2 x 512.
davidhammock200 Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 PC Power and Cooling 510 SLI-PFC (229.00)Excellent Choice! If you use over 2-sticks of RAM, the A64's on-chip memory controller defaults to 2T timing & this really hurts performance. Also I would recommend investing just a few more dollars & going with the 4400+, as it has double the amount of L2 (1MB per core).
