fartonmyear Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 that's the thing. i don't know if it's my PSU or not. i'm just assuming since it has 2 fans and all that jazz.
red930 Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Please do not try to locate the source of the fan noise by turning fans off. lol If you want to see how loud the PSU is with the rest of the rig not running you can remove the power connections from everything in the rig and jump start the PSU alone. The PowerStream series has high flow fans that can really blow if the PSU temp runs hot. Just at idle my PowerStream 600 is the loudest thing in Erzebet. In fact it's the loudest thing in the whole computer room. But that's mostly because all of my rigs are so quiet to begin with. that's the thing. i don't know if it's my PSU or not. i'm just assuming since it has 2 fans and all that jazz. reaper42004 Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 My powerstream 420 makes a cricket chirping like noise that is louder than the fans in it. (It is NOT coming from the fans) You can test it by using a piece of plastic or something to stop the fan blades.
red930 Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Nah! If you're going to go as far as stopping the fans you might as well use your tongue! lol You can test it by using a piece of plastic or something to stop the fan blades. davidhammock200 Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 PowerStreams only get loud when they get hot, what are your case temps?
red930 Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Sounds like he has at least one loose coil maybe more. PowerStreams only get loud when they get hot, what are your case temps?

fartonmyear Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 i don't know what my case temp is. i only know CPU, CHIP, and that other PWICNS or whatever. they're all around normal.
red930 Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 What is your definition of "normal"? My case temps for Aileen are just above the room temp of 78F to 79F as measured with my calibrated temp probe. Under load my peaks are CPU=102F, RAM= 111F, MB=109F, Chipset=112F, GPU=138F, GPU Ambient=108F and PSU Exhaust=90F She's configured as seen in my sig below. i don't know what my case temp is. i only know CPU, CHIP, and that other PWICNS or whatever. they're all around normal.
