Building the hottest comp. with best new parts.

Recommended Posts

I know theres a ton of people out there always posting "Is this comp. hot or what!?!" types of things but I just want to make sure my new, super hot, comp. will even work. I plan on making the best comp. I can with the best parts i can get my sweaty little hands on. Problem is, since i'm building something a whole lot above my usual standards and now have a very nice source of revenue i need help deciding what to get to make sure it will all work and be worth my while down the road. Now for a tenative list of what I plan to get..

MoBo - DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Socket 939 NVIDIA nF4

Processor - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+, socket 939, heavy OC to come later

RAM - 4GB Crucial Balistix Tracer, optimized timings

GPU(s)- 2x eVGA e-GeForce 7800 GTX 256MB PCI-Express Dual DVI/VIVO

Sound card - best 7.1 I can find, heh.

PSU - Looking for something VERY powerful and quiet...enough

Cooling - A few medium/high power internal fans with custom water cooling to come

Case - ThermalTake model Kandalf - http://www.thermaltake.com/xaserCase/kanda...s/va9000bws.htm

Mouse - Razer Diamondback Cameleon Green(already purchased, and LOVING IT!)

keyboard - Looking for a nice, backlit, gaming keyboard.

Custom interior parts - UV reactive and LED everything...no really, everything, fans wires, ports...and blacklight bars for the UV parts.

- Case temp. displays for all parts

BIOS - Havent messed with them on my own yet, so need help getting them all sorted out to best performance.

Money = not a problem.

I hope I can get some help on what to buy, and though money is of only moderate importance to me, i'd still like to get the best bang for my buck. Of course, ill be using my new credit card to buy the pieces one or two at a time to build up a nice credit score and keep it up there. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

I would just get the X2 4400+ 1MB L2 instead of the 4800. And what in the heck do you need 4GB of RAM for? Games are just now starting to use more then a gig. I dont think you need more then 2GB. More RAM will just increase latency if your not even using it. And if your going to spend that much money on parts why dont you get a Lian-Li V series case instead of a Thermaltake knockoff. The V1200 or V2000 would be nice.

Also you will want a Saitek Eclipse Keyboard...its the best

-I'd looked at that one as well as a few others, and the overwhelming response seems to be to get this one. So thats one less decision to make :)

-I may settle on heavy overclocking the x2 4400+ and get a nice package deal on it too. I just figured the 4800+ would carry me further in the long run. Idealist i guess, I probably will get just 2GB of the spiffiest ram i can get. Like you said, 4GB is just overkill and will only hurt me in the end. Now...my main question comes about the case. I always though Thermaltake was a fairly nice brand and that they were a great cooling brand. The Kandalf is said to have nice cooling features and be applicable for a nice water cooling system (which ill probably need/want ). I'll take your advice and look into and do some active comparisons of both case brands and types you're mentioned. Looks are important to me though, and IMO i find the Kandalf to be kinda retro sexy and has lots of potential to be real sexy with the right lighting kits.

This is where im major Noob...power supplies. There are so many out there and i know with all the twinking i plan on doing i shouldnt settle for anything less the 520 if i settle on minor doo-dads. I do plan on running full SLI with UV reactive wiring and LEDS and blacklights positioned for key-hotness. I want it to have nice ambience when you enter a room, so you'll just go "oohhhhh, shiny! " Sounds are also a concern for me. The sound card sounds good and i also want a fairly silent system. There are a few threads on silent PSU's ill re-read again and again and do some major research on. And i do know to make sure whatever PSU i get has to be SLI compatable. I dont want to make this a "Hottest Case" thread, but i would like some opinions on which larger size cases have nice potential for major hotness (and watercooling options).

Also, for case silence i do have an idea thats probably already been thought-of/tried before, but i couldnt find any posts on it. I found some professional grade sound dampening tape that i was considering lining the interior of my case with. Once i completed setup i could also tape-seal the case (in an aesthetically pleasing manner) to make it have next to no ambient noise. I know sounds can and will escape from the case via fan ports and other areas, and no i dont plan on taping them shut :tooth: . Just wanting to know if this idea could work out. I'll try and find the site again and let everyone see just what im talking about for this, and i do remember that the tape was fairly cheap for a large roll. Thanks everyone for your input so far. Hope i can get a bit more attention now that ive made a semi-decent signature. I'll do some research and put more detailed specs of my comp. in later tonight if possible...im posting this at work right now and have already run 6 minutes over my break...heh  keep it coming guys!

Well I'm afraid you cannot have both a Silent Machine and an overclocked Beast.

You can settle for somewhere in the middle and get some sound deadening...but that will heat up your case.

As for the Kandalf...I don't like it and for a big case with the best cooling check my review of the CM Stacker (pwnage):

http://www.sysxtreme.com/showthread.php?t=1513

Its not to everyone's taste, but is better than the Kandalf IMHO.

If you've got the cash get the PCP&C 850w...its the best :D

The CM stacker can also fit 2 x PSU's in it...just FYI ;)

Oh and get BFG Cards - they are

I must agree, BFG cards make my pants rather tight... , I liked the look of the Kandalf but I do also like the stacker you reviewed, and also i liked the look and size of this case. Both look to have decent watercooling potential and lots of rooms for major aircooling. The CM stacker looks to have a clear side which is nice for the part of me that wants to have a big glowing beast, and the one i linked to up there is Lian Li but with no side panel. This would allow better sound-proofing on my part, but id have to do a lot more work to keep it cool. I will make this my official pet project to make a silent overclocked beast. And i may have to consider having two PSU's in the stacker to make all my pretty lights work out better.

I'm not really picky about it as long as its pretty good, and your suggestion sounds pretty good to me. Hope fully i can soon finalize what i want to get so i can get this beast built. I'll make myself the DFI-street slave when optimizing this so everyone can get a taste of how good it feels to make something so powerful. I hope to pull this new thing into the contender ring to match some of the big boys here.

Dude, mabey for music, but you need an audigy 4 if you are into heavy gaming. M-Audio is good but it dosn't support EAX 4.0 and stuff. Wait till creative releases the X-fi sound card. Ya, the PCP&C 850W PSU is insane... And the Lanparty SLI DR is better than the Lanparty UT SLI-DR.

Wow what a setup.....ok I'd go with the CM stacker as mentioned earlier.....I have one and frankly it is the biggest and baddest out there with the best cooling....so many mods you can do for it. Make sure you get the crossflow fan as it makes a HUGE difference in cooling. Also get an extra hard drive cage, which will allow you to add 120mm fan.

I you are a gamer then I would recommend the fx still over the x2....it is still the king, unless you are burning a disc and encoding a movie while you play games.

4GB of memory = overkill. . even 2GB is. If you want to OC your mem at all, get 1GB of really good OCZ or Gskill.

Hard drives - lots of people inhere are buying the hitachi sata2 drives that are available and slapping them in RAID....if you want max performance buy 4 of the 80gb drives and RAID O them, and get another 300-400gb drive as backup.

Sound card....for gamer Audigy 4, for music lover and maker M-audio.

Check out www.performance-pcs.com for lots of the wiring, UV stuff you are lookking for.
