GloryField Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Sorry, well it's not totally DFI related. I'm still waiting for the DFI Crossfire to come out, but I just received my Venice 3000+ today, and I decided to try it on a chaintech vnf4 ultra I had. So I applied arctic silver, being my first time, I didn't know you weren't supposed to put arctic silver into the sockets. I put some silver in each of the sockets cause I thought it would make it cooler. But it wouldn't work. I am afraid to pull out the processor right now and loose all the pins. Any suggestions? Yea I feel like an idiot.

red930 Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Oh! I really hope you are kidding about puting thermal paste into the socket and on the pins. Wow! I don't think there's any way to recover the motherboard or CPU! Man, if this is true it really sucks. I feel sorry for the motherboard and CPU. Bummer! What a waste of good hardware. GloryField Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Update, I was managed to get the chip out, but one of the pins on the corner had part of it break off. I think ima solder it or use arctic silver adhesive. What do you guys think

Or did it break at the contact point

soundx98 Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Ya hey dare, I'm right on da border dare and got some good frends in Sisconsin. Your one of dem "cheeseheads" aren't ya? I seen you on TV wit dat bigazz wedge of cheese on yer haid. This all makes sense to me know. So you and da boyz was sittin around drinkin' a few brewskis (prolly Miller or Leinenkugal) and gettin' all sheet faced and Jed says, "hey Farley, won't it be twice as cool if you put that stuff on the bottom too?" And you say, "Gosh darn, that's a dang good idear". So youse guys have a few more 12 packs and then head over to the pig roast for some pork and drinkin'. But all the while a lil voice says, "Jed, is right, but it would be even better if you put it IN the socket too!" Makes sense to me, kinda like a reverse OREO. Thank gawd no one suggested using super glue to make sure it was it in tight.
red930 Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 There is a local shop here that can 'clean' all residue off of any circuit board for a very minimal cost. There might be one in your area as well. I will check tonight when I get off work.
red930 Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Just think GloryField ,in 2 or 3 yrs, when you're a DFI OC guru, you can look back and laugh at this, maybe even help out someone if you figure out how to fix it. At the very least you can be the king of the "things not to do thread" Have a look at some of the stuff we have done http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12414
