Kaido Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 The problem is that I can’t overclock my cpu I tried this at first (I just wanted to know if my ram can run @ 250MHz so I dint overclock my cpu): I set the FSB to 250 (tried even 225 or lower value but still the same problem = no boot). The CPU multiplayer was set to 8 (to get the default 1800MHz when the fsb was @ 225) Memory was 1:1 and all the other memory settings where auto and default I give memory 2.9V (Corsair support says it will work on 250MHz @ 2.9V) CPU was running @ 1.4V But still I can’t even start the memtest86 program to c if there are any errors. My pc just restarts itself. If I change anything it the bios regarding to fsb then my pc just doesn’t boot anymore it just restarts. Can someone help me out. I think I’m doing something wrong here. I just can’t overclock anything with this dfi mobo. My cpu ran @ 2300MHz without problems on Asus mobo. Should I give more voltage to the LDT Bus and the Chipset? The default values in bios are 1.2V and for chip set 1.51V.
willyrybone Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 i would say try some "real" settings other than just auto, check the OC Database to find someone with similar hardware the copy their settings to give you a place to start .... it worked for me
Kaido Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 I tryed to set the LDT/FSB to 3X and the FSB was @ 210X9. CPU voltages where @ 1.45V (memory settings where all @ auto and default) and then I managed to boot from cd and run memtest. But as soon it started to run the test It showed about 180 Errors.
CPDMF Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 You need to have a plan of attack. Start at stock and work your way towards your goal, rather than shoot for the moon and have to go back and change everything. Memtest your ram at 200 just to make sure, Get to the highest stable OC you can get then get back here and read other posts and ask specific questions. I have never had to ask a question on this sight, all the info in the world is already here..For xp's anyway..
Kaido Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 What to you exactly mean start @ stock? I’m running my system without problems with all settings at stock speeds right now. And my ram works fine @ 200. The real problem is that I cant understand what am I doing wrong. I can’t even set the fsb to 201. It will give hell load of errors when I do that. That’s why I’m asking these stupid questions. I have read the OC guides for AMD64 but need some help (need to read them thro one more time to c if I made a mistake somewhere). Is the problem not giving enough voltages to the cpu and other components? Or are my memory timings bad? (The memory timings are all @ stock and auto)
CPDMF Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 I would have to say at 201 FSB without changing anything else from optimized defaults your problem is at a hardware level...Have you tried moving the memory to a different slot or using only one stick? Kaido Posted July 6, 2005 Posted July 6, 2005 I managed to get 250X9= 2250MHz @ 1.5V (ran tests about 4 hours but I need to run some more tests to be sure its stable). If I try to go any higher my system just crashes (even when I’m using 1.6V) and the temps are going over 50C :shake: (need to kick the freezer64 fan into higher speeds). It seems that I can’t go any higher with this cpu But still I have one question. The problem is that my memory doesn’t go any higher than 208MHz (lowest timings @ 2.9V). Haven’t tried to use different memory slots yet but could the integrated memory controller in amd64 be the cause of my problem? Is it possible that I just have a bad cpu that doesn’t want to run @ higher speeds? I haven’t raised the chipset voltages yet because I have heard that doesn’t help much (or does it ? ). Any advice would be welcome

I tried the memory in different slots. And still I can’t go over 210MHz. I even tried with only one memory stick in orange and when I but it into the yellow slot my system even didn’t want to boot probably. It took some time until it booted (sometimes it even didn’t boot). It's seems that dfi nf4 sli-d doesn’t like this memory and its hopeless to run it anything above 200MHz (I mean my memory) Is there any bios that I should try? Tomorrow I try to test my memory on a different motherboard and c if it works @ 250MHz (PC4000 should work at this speed)
