Hojoboba Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Would a Ultra X-Connect 500w power supply be able to support a pair of 7800 GTXs, if so, would it have some extra juice for overclocking too? Just intrested if I will also need to get a different power supply when I upgrade.
Guest Joalaielna Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Upgrade? for what reason You should be fine with those ultras for 2 years!
txmale36 Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 ultra x connect is a bad power supply to start off with. ive heard alot of bad stories about those. supposedly nvidia recommends at least 500watts for two gtxs if i recall correctly. however i would recommend at least 600watts. so you have some head room for oc and all your other hardware. i would choose the ocz powerstream 600watt or some other sli certified psu.http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10854 try this thread also its very good. Pihrana Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 He obviously is the Bleeding Edge man !! Ive learnt my lesson. You only ever need to be 1 step behind bleeding edge man and you will always be able to play and do anything you want. Its just you pay more for doing it that little bit faster !! hacknack Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 OCZ power supplies look freakin' awesome. If you're into the look of your computer, then you need to get an OCZ

Guest burningrave101 Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 I'm really surprised that X-Connect hasn't tucked its tail and took off running out the back of your case with what you have installed right now. Considering what you spent on the CPU and the video cards you have now why would buy an X-Connect to start with? Probably the same reason everyone else did. Its modular and you think it looks cool. Nither one of those are good reasons to buy a power supply though because power supplies were never meant to look cool. Their just meant to supply stable clean power and an X-Connect is anything but high quality. Its an average PSU that will run an average rig and should never be run in a SLI config. If i were you i would replace it before that bling bling makes a loud bang and all Ultra says is too bad so sad lol.
Drew Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 I wouldn't touch an Ultra-X with a 10ft pole. A buddy of mine bought one because it "looked cool" and it was blowing black smoke within a month.
LuckEnova Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 ultra x connect is a bad power supply to start off with. ive heard alot of bad stories about those. Take it from me, who has a first hand bad experience with this PSU. I can get my rig up an MemTest86+ stable, but with wierd timings. I haven't tried any other stability program like Prime95, but I highly doubt my system will pass. (it just doesn't SEEM stable, especially when loading into windows.) Also, I can't get my system to run on ANY other settings than the ones I have currently. I believe a LOT of my issues are due to the X-Connect psu and the fact that the DFI NF4 boards aren't meant to support 20pin psu's... I have an OCZ ModStream 520w arriving at my house today. I have very high hopes that this will solve my problems. Peace!

And I bought the X-Connect because it was a 500w psu that looked nice, and had the UV cords, since my rig (inside) is all UV reactive. I read a review on many different PSUs and the X-Connect got a pretty decent review... but the review was not taking into account any other aspects (like the DFI NF4 mobo and all the issues that come along with it. So, yeah... I will put the X-Connect in my OLD machine (so i am not losing out on any $ hehe)... Also, since the old machine's power supply makes it sounds like a friggin exhaust fan (its LOUD)!!! lol Peace
