carmat3 Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 I just buil a system se my sig.. My single Raptor 74g is slow. Average time is 64, about 120 on burst, with HD tach. I didnot install the SI 3114 drives, and was wondering if this is why my drive is slow..? I got winXP w/ SP 2 and updates up and running with no problems. I would also like to know what the setting in the bios, for a single sata drive are. If I need to install the drivers, how do I go about it? Any help is great. Im running the bios dated 9/20/04 DFI LP UT ultra-D eVGA 6600GT 512 Kingston Hyper X PC 4000 Venice 3000 WD Raptor 74g 10000 rmp Antec SmartPower 2.0 500w CD rom drive
Guest SiX Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 install the drivers and see if that helps, most things run better with drivers
Dregelmyller Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 install the drivers and see if that helps, most things run better with drivers But dont install the NForce4 IDE drivers becouse they messed up my windows install. It made my Raptor go so slow, i could write and read max 1Mb/s. After getting rid of the drivers everything went fine.
carmat3 Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Do I just install from the CD? I noticed Nvidia Nforce4 ADMA and ATA controllers under Device manager->Ide ATA/Atapi controllers. Are these the ones I should get rid of..

uwackme Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 I used the full driver package of version 6.39 and it is flawless, with 2x36G raptors in raid0 on NV sata, and an 80G maxtor ata133 on IDE using the NV IDE drivers. No issues what so ever.

I have no problems with the nforce 4 drivers on my raptor.
carmat3 Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 I removed the nvidia drivers, and installed the sata raid driver disk that came with the DFI board. No improvement so far. I will install the version 6.39 drivers next.. Any suggestions out there..
carmat3 Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Should I try a bios upgrade?
soundx98 Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Not sure I follow you completely here but A single SATA - actually your speed isn't that bad. Ultra-D - it doesn't have a Sil Image controller If it does have a Sil Image controller don't use it, you are much better off using the NV controller (near battery). Drive is probably very fragmented if anything, DEFRAG IT. keep us posted.
soundx98 Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 typical SATA should give you about 50 average and a burst of 100 0r so. That usually doubles in a RAID configuration. HD Tach DOES NOT accurately read burst speed in RAID but it IS accurate for a single drive. The difference in Raptors is their very fast access time, about 50% better than standard SATA drive. I'd also suggest downloading ATTO as an additional test.
