What programs do you people use to keep your computer running good? Like registry cleaners or any other type of clean-up programs...stuff like that.

I use these programs on a daily basis:

 

Ad-Adware SE personal

SpywareBlaster

Window Washer

WINer Tweak Registry Cleaner

Perfect Disk 7.0 (awsome defragger)

 

This is all I run. That and I don't use anything but Firefox for a browser.

On average, I do a clean install of XP Pro SP2 every 3 months lol.

Long time ago u used ad-aware also almost everyday, but now, once in 2/3 months, ans he hardly find something.

i dont use any software...i am careful and safe and have common sense not to visit places or install programs that are not good for my machine

 

when i do uninstall programs, i edit the registry by hand after uninstalling. this isn't really necessary even but im anal retentive.

 

i also use Firefox and don't have to worry about too much spyware etc, but even so, I am still careful and don't visit sites that are bad and i dont accept cookies from any site but trusted sites (ie sites trusted by me)

I'm very fussy and hate having tons of unnecessary programs on my computer, same with my Desktop, i only have 4 Icons on there

 

I do like to use a Drive Cleaner to get rid of all that junk picked up and created by various softwares, Windows Disk Cleanup is just too limited... Currently using CCleaner, a freeware program. I've also used Windows Washer and i think thats probably better...

 

Only other Tweaking software i use is TuneUp Utilities. It contains a lot of very useful utilities in one that come in very useful for me, mainly the Start Up Manager so i can easily disable all of those non-essential start up items and the Registry Editor. I do most of my own registry editing, like to remove remnants of entries from software i've uninstalled, tweaking my internet connection etc and i like the one in TuneUp Utilities because you can bookmark registry keys and it automatically creates a backup of any changes you make.

I don't like Registry Cleaners, they are unreliable, but they are ok if you know what your doing

 

I'm not in the Firefox brigade either. Its not really any safer than IE if your a careful use with common sense and i prefer IE for my needs though Firefox is a great browser. I may switch to in one day...

Firefox is so damn popular these days, i'd say 99% of ppl i know use it A lot of them because they are under the false impression that it makes their system security invincible, which is an added danger in itself...

so when editing your registry, you just find leftover stuff of which you are not using and just delete it?

i use adaware se. spybot search and destroy. registry cleaner. spyware blaster. crap cleaner microsoft ani-spyware. zone alarm security suite. has cache cleaner also can delete tracking cookies as well.
