The_Head Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 Received My New computer yesterday: AMD64 3000+ winnies DFI LANParty Ultra-D 2 x 512MB OCZ Platinum Revision 2 PC3200 Powercolour X800XL Enermax Noisetaker 485W I'm not sure what bios I have running, I've looked on the PCI slot and there is loads of stuff, not 100% sure what bit I want. P/N:NF4U91-100 R.AB0 000129200002191E I am assuming it is 91-100.... but that isn't a bios version I have seen anyone else have yet. When it comes to flashing a new bios I have no experience, I'm worried about doing something wrong and stopping the Motherboard working. What are the chances of this? I left that for now and attempted to install Windows XP, on booting up with the CD in (I have set prioritys to Floppy, CD, Hdd) I get the following error message: PxE.E61 Media test Failure, check cable PxE.M0f Exiting NVIDIA boot agent DISK BOOT FAILURE, PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER I have checked the cables, they work fine in my other computer, and I have tried the cables from this computer (my old one) in it and it makes no difference. I have checked the XP disk here too, no problems there. And have also tried my DVD reader from this computer in the new one... all to no avail. Any ideas on a fix? cheers

Sharp Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 Hello, When you turn the PC on look at the screen when it detects the hard drives, Bottom left you will see a date. That is the BIOS version. rg, 01/25/05 or 03/10/05 Did you plug all the power conectors into the board? All power connectors into the hard drives too? AustinGamer Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 go into your bios optionsand disable the lan party startup screen. it will be on the bottom left side. when did you buy your board? you need to flash, i promise. i hd the same problem with the xp until you flash. its easy. dont worry it will do everything for you. just creat a bootable floppy and add the two files that you need to download. search for my name austingamer and read the austin/roundrock post, same as you. i never have done this before but in the last few weeks ive built my first rig with help from Stephen C here on the board. also ADD YOUR RIG SPECS ON BOTTOM FOR YOUR SIGNATURE!!!!!!!!!! scumchester sucks! The_Head Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 Cheers you 2. It tuirns out I had the version 3-10 bios (I noticed after my mate had been around watching me try to flash 3-10..... he wasnt to pleased when I noticed, hour of his time gone) atleast I know how to flash a bios now. Been testing the stabability in Memtest, even overclocked. just done a loop a htt 305, cpu 2.135 GHz Ram is at DDR610 2.5-4-4-8 I still can't install Windows though. A freind suggested it might be the harddrive, I know it works fine because I had it in this comp (old one) for storage. SHould I need to completely format first.... thats what my freind said, doesnt seem right though, last time i installed XP for another freinds comp the disc formatted the harddrive before installing. mmcrae45 Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 I tried to do an inplace Install of WinXP home SP2 from a slipsteamed cd (see Microsoftt article ID #824125) after swappig boards. All went well till the first reboot then it would just keep rebooting. Tried the repair install about times with the same result. Had to do a quick format and clean install to get it to work. The_Head Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 That article isn't any use.... I dont have a prior installation I can upgrade from. I have seen other people get out of this with a new bios, I already have the newest.... I've tried flipping the floppy cable around (can't even see why i need it for installing XP from cd), different boot orders... everything that I can think of.... mmcrae45 Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 You don't need the floppy drive to install Windows. In the bios set your boot sequence to Floppy, CD, Hard drive or CD, Floppy, Hard drive or Cd, hard drive, Floppy. Put in your Windows XP cd (make sure it has SP2) in your cd drive, and boot up. When it asks if you want to boot from the cd, hit enter. You will be able to partition, format and install Windows from the cd.
