Angry_Games Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 soo uhh what do u guys think about the voltage? i dont really care if u like my chip or not =) how about your make your sig a little more robust and supply is with some real info like your settings, voltages, etc and maybe we can begin to help you instead of relating our personal feelings about FX-55's :tooth:
Guest jot Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 I agree this 3000 I have will smoke and it only costs about 150.00 U.S. Forget my last post I didn't read must be getting old.

r1derbike Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 Trav: Heh-heh. Yeah, the failures every 13 minutes do tend to give you that "warm and fuzzy" feeling all over much quicker, no? ;-} Magic Bios...oh, wait...that's the "Magic Bus" playing! Cryptz: The X2s weren't available when I got the FX-55 at the first of the year, and neither were the new 90 nm FX-55s, so it was at the top of the food chain at that time. Nothing stays at the top of the food chain for very long in this industry. It was the right choice for me at that time, but now, I'd have to go with something else with more bang-for-the-buck! Get back with your updated sig, and many on this forum will help you. ;-} Charles
cryptz Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 i updated my sig, but my settings are 100% stock =) basically i was looking to go to 200x14 on the cpu and see how i faired, i tried that and got a bsod booting into windows, i figured it was a voltage problem with the cpu but didnt know how high to take it
geeman74 Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 i cant get my fx to 3ghz been trying 2.95ghz is my best so far it does like less voltage than stock tho  only running stock now cos its to hot atm
Guest nomad Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 I have done a decent amount of research on the voltage tolerance for 130nm A64's and it seems that the concensus is 1.65 for air and 1.7 for high end watercooling for . You can streach the voltage to 1.75 on phase change. It is important to remeber that low temps doesn't mean that you can still up the voltage. Like if you are running 1.65v and you are topping out at 45c you should run more voltage. At extremesystems a forum member blew a hole through the heat spreader at 1.8v on phase change :eek2:

r1derbike Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Well...let me tell you about two FX-55 processors I have/had. Prime95 100% CPU load, at stock settings no less, netted 62 C. operating temperatures for BOTH processors, with one of the best air HSF solutions made; the Thermaltake Silent Boost copper cooler. No problems with thermal-paste, no problems with defective die to heat-spreader contact. These processors just run hot at 100% load. What is really scary, is the 62 C. prime loaded temp., is only 1 DEGREE C. below AMD's maximum recommended temperature for this processor. This processor dissipates a tremendous amount of heat, at full load, no doubt about it. There are far better processors out there for overclocking that will achieve FX-55 performance at a fraction of the cost! From my personal experience, I wouldn't run this processor at ANYTHING but stock settings on air. Others may differ, that's fine, but I thought I'd tell it like it is for me. There, I've said it... Guest jot Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Should be able to 2.9 or maybe 2950 on air anything over3.0 and these dudes get very hot 1.60 to 1.65 vcore should do it make sure u watch your temps. But don't just raise your muilty let your mem help u out. Should be a walk in the park.

Charles I've got Charles's board/cpu/memory and with his TT heatsink, an SLK-948U, and an XP-90, the FX-55 always primes above 60C.
