Thermalright XP-90 question.

I've picked out the Thermalright XP-90 heatsink because I've heard alot of great things about it...and it's recommended alot in this forum. I just have a stock heatsink and fan. I wanna replace it with a better cooling heatsink and fan. But what fan should I use? I've seen people use the Vantec Tornado...good choice?

I don't really care for the rather "plain" looking black fans that are out there. Is there any other 92mm fans that are worthy of the XP-90 that look a little better than a black fan? I don't see anything on newegg or tigerdirect.

Thanks.

The copper version far exceeds AMD weight specs & it is still a clip-on. The worst of both worlds!

Because of the "offset" dan design of the XP-90/90C,

the 92mm 68CFM Panaflo cools almost as well as the Tornado (<2C difference) & is MUCH quieter.

Thanks guys.

I see that the Panaflo 92mm fan is recommended by Thermalright after a little more research.

So is the copper version too heavy for the socket to support, or what? What is the possible negative outcome of using a heatsink that is over the weight limit? I'm still gonna get the XP-90...I don't like the copper look anyway....just curious. I guess I never paid attention to the weight.

Thanks.

Its usually not too big a deal, but if you jostle your case around alot, it could rip teh cpu out of the socket/crack the pcb. I've used heavier Heatsinks than that, and lugged my boxes around to lanparties and haven't had any troubles.

they changed the clasps on 90c now u have to manually remove old clip heatsink adapter and 90c now comes with its own version u screw thru the mobo holes now so weight isnt much of a problem now plus on the clip its mounted on all 4 corners, i would say only reason to worry about 90c is because u might have to gring the feet down a bit with dremmel or something because it doesnt allow for that good of contact with mobile cpu's. Besides that its the best cooler on the market, Im gettin close to water temps with mine and tornado on 2500 rpms which is relatively silent

26 idle 32 loaded when heavily ocd and volted to 1.6 i load to 38 most and idle 31-32

if u want good cooling for massive oc id say 90c and wutever fan u choose, since they have changedd the mounting brackets.

just my 2cent's
