Loud North Bridge Fan

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

I've got the Northbridge fan set for off at 25 full on at 50 and its quite loud when it spins up and down to full speed. It's louder than my GPU and Stock CPU fans. The temps hover around 50 at load. Does someone make a good Northbridge cooler? Should I try my GPU in the other PCIe slot? I've got 2x120mm fans and 1X92 on the side, plus the PSU.

Suggestions?

Mike

the other PCIe is not an option i think. You don't have an SLI board (or modded ultra  ) , right ? its only 2x tranferrate , the top slot is 8x.

what's your chipset voltage ? try 0,1v lower maybe if that doesn't kill your oc

Best is to remove the chipset fan , put some AS5 on the chipset and reinstall.

Some people have taken the fan off and slapped some AS5 on it. Some people (including me) have positioned a fan to blow air right over the NB. My temp doesn't exceed 43C because of this. I don't think you can go wrong either way. Hell, I'd do both.

Put a fan blowing a current of fresh air over the NB fan intake.

I stuck a low rpm Antec case fan (Super Lanboy's transparent back case fan, dead silent) and it works wonders even at 7 volts! You can almost see the movement on the fan blades! :D

It's just slightly sloped towards the northbridge so it blows mostly over my gfx card.

Cheers

Chipset voltage is already as low as it can go. I thought that both slots were 16x and 8x in sli? Is there anything special I have to do to apply AS5? I heard their was some small modifications that had to be done?

yeah, yesterdag i became crazy

just received my new mobo/cpu/gpu. i started to mount all my elements for h2o-cooling. mounted the mobo in my case. connected all te cables and stuff. wanted to plugin my gpu, it doesn't fit because the cooling element on the chipset is in the way. realy sucks because now i have to unmount everything now, to replace the chipsetcooler

and now i read that everybody had probs with the temp of the chipset. i'll hope my airflow is good enough (2*120mm at low speed)
