Guest Kronos Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 This is how I start my testing: * Change a setting in the BIOS. (I record the setting in Excel) * Boot to Memtest and run test 5. * Boot into windows. * Run Prime95 for 30 mins. http://mersenne.org/gimps/p95v238.zip * Run Everest Benchmarking test. http://www.lavalys.hu/downloads/everesthome200.zip * Run Sandra RAM and CPU tests. http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/index.h...all&langx=en&a= * Run 3Dmark 01. http://www.futuremark.com/download/?3dmark2001.shtml * Run 3Dmark 03. http://www.futuremark.com/download/?3dmark03.shtml * Run 3Dmark 05. http://www.futuremark.com/download/?3dmark05.shtml * Run Aquamark3. http://download.guru3d.com/aquamark3/ If all tests pass: * Run OCCT stabilty test. (30 mins or so) http://www.ocbase.com/OpenBeta/OCCTv0.91.exe * Prime95 for 8'ish hours while I sleep. * OCCT for 8'ish hours while I work. This gives me a pretty good indication whether I'm stable or not. Also: Once you have a stable OC, please post the results in the OC DB!! Make sure the OC entry looks like the rest or you will have an angry Angry_Games gunning for you.
tennvols_69 Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 you should also run test 7 and test 8 in memtest as both test 5 and 7 can pass but 8 may fail. also to truely test for stablity make sure you use blend option in prime95 as it also tests the ram for stability. SaFrOuT Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 i think only running memtest tes5 & 8 for ram stability and OCCT ( 30min test ) is more than enough for me
Tecnolover Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Question: Is there a way in memtest to set it to run both #5 and #8?? I've only found how to select either all tests or just one test in the settings.
Tecnolover Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 btw- I think your way of testing stability is very good and fully inclusive. I ran prime95 and was passing all the blended tests fine but got multiple crashes playing some star wars game. I think testing stability with a few game benchmarking programs is smart. Guest burningrave101 Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 In Prime95 you should run blend to test the RAM, large ffts to test overall stability and heat, small ffts to test CPU stability.

Angry_Games Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 run memtest 4 hours minimum, overnight preferred run 3dmark01 once to get benchmark run prime95 8 hours minimum run 3dmark03/05/Aquamark3 run Everest/Sandra for memory benches then loop 3dmark01 for 8 hours minimum time is the only thing that can torture a machine enough...30 minutes, no matter how stressful, is not enough http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11754 anything less is LAZY (read that link i put above this sentence)
zeus_999 Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Here's the way I do a complete test of a oc.... NOTE - each step has to complete without any errors before I start the next one. Memtest #5 - 10 passes Memtest #8 - 10 passes Memtest all - 8hrs SuperPi 1M - 5 passes OCCT (30 min Test) - 5 passes SuperPi 32M - 5 passes AquaMark 3 - 5 passes 3DMark01/03/05 - 5 passes each FarCry HOC Pier demo - 25 passes (custom batch file to run game in a loop) Prime95 - 8hrs+ Then if all that passes, I play HL2 from start to finish in one go (approx 6.5hrs) If its still ok, oc is stable I know its overkill but I don't want my system to crash in the middle of a LAN party
