the zod Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Greetings everyone, am I glad I found this forum! Within a week or two I will be joining your ranks as a DFI owner. I've owned ABIT, Asus and MSI mobos in the past and am very much looking forward to making the switch. In my sig, I've included what I plan on purchasing. Before I make my purchase, I was hoping to get some feedback from you veterans out there about my components. Any and all suggestions will be much appreciated. Looking to be a positive member of the forum, -zod
cpuz Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Welcome! Nice componets. eVGA, great company, great selection. If it were me, I might re-think the ram w/ something from ocz same w/ psu and I am not employed by them. EDIT: see you selected the ocz powerstream, nice choice. oliveryochest Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 PQI Turbo 2x512 - open to suggestions from you all good ram. but i would go with one of these listed below. The reps make frequent stops in the forum to help others. OCZ Buffalo Tech Crucial Ballistix eVGA 6800GT PCIe Nice choice, very good company OCZ Powerstream 520W That might be good, but maybe think about a 600 from OCZ or Enermax, just in case you decide to upgrade one day to SLI. The new VC's that are coming around the corner are going to be very power hungry.
the zod Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Thank you for the welcome and suggestions. The RAM and PS were my two biggest question marks. IIRC, OCZ RAM isn't TCCD anymore, it's TCC5, correct? Is that really an issue? Crucial, I haven't had a stick of their RAM since my P3 450 was overclocked to 600, LOL. Though I have read good things about the Ballistix within the past year or so. I have a 512mb stick of Buffalo somewhere (just moved into my house and the place is a wreck) but it may be CH-5; couldn't get BH-5 at the time. I'll have to check out the PS sticky in more detail. the zod Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Hello again, I just wanted to let y'all know my DFI conversion is complete and I updated my sig. After installing XP, I updated my BIOS to 310, got SP2 and it's been smooth sailing. Gonna do a bit more reading, then start experimenting with the overclock, w00t! This motherboard is SWEET! Sharp Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Hello, The Raptor, why not get 2 sataII drives instead. 2 drives is always an advantage, 1 for programs 1 for storage + pagefile. You could raid them together but then store important files on another hard drive/pc.
the zod Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Basically, money was the issue for not getting 2 SATAII drives for a RAID setup. There is one thing that I have a question about. When I open My Computer, I have 5 removable HDDs. Which I find odd. I was reading another post that said not to use the nVidia IDE drivers; what should I use? And do I need to do another complete install of WinXP? Also, is it ok to use the nVidia monitor to check CPU, System and Vid card temps? hacknack Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 You can always get Patriot ram (the one in my sig). There are many satisfied people using it

Both of them are about half the price of one Raptor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822145082

the zod Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Welcome aboard Which version of the PQI turbos are you running? DB, DBL or DBU's? Very good question. I didn't even think to check. Which of the 3 are known to overclock the best? I thought about the Patriot RAM but decided on the PQI just to be different and play the RAM Roulette game Nice monitor btw OldGuy; I absolutely love mine!
