Lanparty Ultra B Bios Question

Recommended Posts

First off I dont have any known problem with my BIOS, which is good.

Just a question.

My motherboard Lanparty Ultra B, rev A , as per Everest, has Phoenix-Award BIOS v6.00PG release date 07/28/04 (Original BIOS)

Sil 3114 SATALINK BIOS version 5.0.35 = this on post up screen.

I dont see that BIOS version offered at DFI BIOS download page. Why?

I see early versions & later.

Is there another BIOS page for offical DFI BIOS downloads?

Thanks

For some strange reason the link got removed about a month or 2 ago. Don't ask me why, i had no issues with that Bios when i used it... Maybe it got removed by mistake?

Anyway, its still available for download from there its just the link that isn't posted.

Another Question's.

I see alot of folks running and recommending the 6/19 Bios for the Ultra B mobo's & Mobile CPU's, any advantage for me? ( what I'm running is slightly newer version)

The only thing odd, or maybe not (as this DFI mobo is new for me) when I boot the Bios version is not displayed only the SATALINK Bios version is.

I have several other PC's that are dual channel when they post they state that are running in dual channel mode but not this DFI board?? ( one of my other PC's MOBO is Asus A7N8X Deluxe 2.0 which also uses a Phionex-Award BIOS v6.00PG same "as my DFI Ultra B but does not have all the same settings/features" it displays the Bios version/memory dual channel/ and run's memory test, the whole post screen is differant.

Not really anything like my DFI, which is O.K. just querrious??

My DFI does not run memory test, not that it matters.

When I shut down/turn off my DFI, it does not shut off by it's self, but on screen display message "It is now safe to turn off bla bla bla" then ya hit power button, pc turns off.

I havent had PC that shut's down like that ,sinse I had P2 200mhz pc??

I guess in a sense the BIOS must be generic and or brand specific ??

This DFI Ultra seems to be great MOBO, setting up was simple, even with my new Mobile CPU.

I should have bought both sooner.

I've set this rig up just to experiment OCing

I'm sure I'll be posting some more Question soon.

Thanks! :)

firstly the bios version seems very personal to ones own computer, i've had some great results with tictacs modded bios, i can run voltages pretty much stock at 250fsb with no problem, so it's a matter of trying a few out and seeing which suits your configuration the best, but you MUST have a backup plan when reflashing your bios, either spare prgrammed chip, a machine to hot flash with or a bios saviour.

the sata bios is the screen after the main bios screen, so mayb its just taking a while for your monitor to turn on from standby?

this is the case for my housemates system. you can't see the post screen, just have to blindly press delete to enter bios lol

with respect to the shutting down problem.........the only thing i can think of is if u go into device manager....click on computer and does it say something like 'standard pc' (if i remember correctly) this setting caused that exact problem where it would go to the 'it is now safe......' screen.

I think it may be something to do with that but havent got the time to check atm, gotta get some sleep. maybe someone else knows off the top of their head?

I Figured out why couldnt see part of post up screen, it was due to LOGO being enabled once I disabled, post screen look's like I thought it should, bios version/memory test /deal channel etc.

As far as how system shut's down, not really a problem, but I would prefer that once I decide to shut down in windows I dont necessarily want to have to press the power button to power off once windows closes.

In device manager, Computer = Standard PC

The PC I using now, my Asus mobo in device manager, Computer = ACPI Uniprocessor PC

I'm guessing must be setting in BIOS, Power Management Setup.

Humm! I have to check it out.

Thanks.

Nope its the way you installed windows......You can change it from the Device manager though.....

Device Manager >- Computer >- Expand >- Standard PC >- Right Click >- Update Driver >- Install from List... >- Dont search Let me Choose >- Choose Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC. You will need to reboot twice for the changes to be implemented..

Just as a side note Choosing >Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC rather than the >ACPI Uniprocessor PC helps save you from Lan drops etc in the future ;) just incase you are deciding to choose the same as your other pc, DONT........:)

Hey Loggan26

Any relation to ACPI settings in BIOS?

For my DFI Ultra your recommending I set too "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC"

Any advantage for leaving as Standard PC?

For my other PC "Asus" "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" you suggest leave it alone or in your words, (just incase you are deciding to choose the same as your other pc, DONT........)

Why? can you elaborate?

Thanks.

The 6.00 bios ver thing is the code it's based off from, nothign else.

Err, more like the format I would think.

The 7/28 you have is the ver most likely.

Hehehe, ok that is the ver ;) .

I thaught for a sec you were saying that you had the ultra a, but you have the ultra b.

There are a few more ver's after 728.

A seccy and I will pull up all the ver's I got info for, sorta, was a mess to some extent.

11/24/04

11/19/04

07/28/04

06/19/04

05/06/04 ?

05/05/04

04/29/04

02/27/04 ?

02/17/04

02/15/04

01/31/04

01/30/04

01/21/04

12/31/03

12/18/03

12/10/03

11/27/03

10/15/03

09/30/03

A few of them had multible ver's of them btw, like 619, had both a beta ver and a release ver, diffrent crcs.

Another instance of the same ver, but diffrent checksums:

2004/2/17

N24LD217.b01.zip is for LP NFII ultra B with 12-18 romsip table

N24LD217.b02.zip is for LP NFII ultra B with 01-31 romsip table

728 is a good bios, you could try the last ver's of it if you wanted to, but there are a few bugs though in them.

Nothing huge though, but sometimes it'll screw up the cpu id, and windows won't know how much l2 cache you have.

So it'll revert to using 256k of l2, instead of 512k if you have it.

Microsoft denied that before but if you bench it in sandra using the mem bench, on a unknown cpu with more then 256k of l2 you'll see the diffrence between forcing it and leaving it to widows to decide.

This only effect the mobiles I believe though.

There was one more bug, but I can't remember what it was in this day and age.

Been quite some time since I've messed around with those vers.

To get the power off stuff working you need one of 2 things enabled.

You've been told somewhat about acpi allready.

For one, it needs enabling in the bios AND windows.

If you can't figuer out how to enable it it windows without a hard time, enable it in the bios then install windows and it'll be setup right.

Another way of going about it is to enable apm, or both apm and acpi(the norm).

APM is called: MPS Version Control For OS.

That's the ver anyways, just one of the settings.

That's under the section called: Advanced BIOS Features.

The enable and disable for that is called: APIC Mode.

It's under the same section in the bios.

APIC and ACPI.

Both should be enabled on a normal config.

Us dfi users have found that having APIC enabled can cuase problems in overclocking though.

Seems to be a cpu problem or something, not the boards fault.

Actually it's useable to a decent fsb really, around 240 probably, maybe depending on the cpu and etc.

APIC can cause probalem on the pci bus though as well, overall bunk thing to have enabled.

ACPI.

Some people disable it and use there rig like you have your's setup, where they have to power off manually.

Also irq's are setup diffrently without it, etc etc.

Some claim it adds stability when it's disabled too.

I myself and many others do keep it enabled though, it seems fine and I'm not going to bother disabling it right now.

I probably will never disable it, I like being able to setup getright to shutdown the computer while I'm sleeping or gone after a dl is complete.

Stuff like that, I'd also hate to see that screen that say it's safe to shut down, I hate that thing :) .

Anyways if you're happy with the bios you have and feal liek playing around a bit, try another ver of the dfi vers.

Don't use an unofficial bios unless you really think you need it for some reason.

Or maybe for more memory bandwith, otherwise it's not worth your time and it's only gonna confuse you.

Using a unoffical bios to get up to 240 fsb or something just sounds dumb.

The offical bios roms can do this easy enough, if you have such a prob in the future, I sugest you look at the big picture and figuer out what truly is wrong with your setup :) .

Good luck on your ultra b anyways and have fun with it ;) .
