RahulM Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 I'm getting 2 gigs of Kingston KVR (value) Ram on my next PC, but several people have recommended I go with Ocz premium ram. What kind of differences would I notice if I were to splurge and get the premium types of ram? I'll be gaming for the most part. Here are my specs: CPU: AMD64 4000+ (might downgrade) CASE: ATX Antec SLK3000B NOPS BLACK MOBO: DFI Lanparty UT NF4 Sli-DR HDD: 2x Raptor 10k RPM (RAID0) VidCard: 2x 6800 Ultras (or GT) Psupply: 600W Enermax Noisetaker Ram: Kingston KVR 400mhz DDR NO-ECC 2gig kit (maybe not?) Monitor: Dell 2405FPW Extras:Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu heatsink and a Vantec 120mm Stealthfan Opt. drive:NEC 3520A
Sharp Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Hello, Always say with 2 sticks. KVR may not work in this board. Crucial Ballistix modules are probably the cheapest high performance modules you can get. (In the UK) 1GB Ballistix (2x512mb) 2-2-2-6 PC3200 2GB Ballistix (2x1GB) 3-4-4-8 PC4000 = 2.5-3-3-6 @DDR400 (may work at 2-2-2-6) But this one will allow you to OC the CPU. Some thing to think about, Get 1GB and spend the money on a better CPU?
RahulM Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 I checked the official DFI list of compatible memory, and the KVR was in there. So with that in mind, is it decent ram? How much of a difference would it make if I went with crucial or ocz?
oliveryochest Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 I try to stay away from anything that says "value" even if it is on the list. I would go with these 3 companies listed below. Their reps are in the forum frequently to assist anyone with trouble. OCZ Crucial Ballistix Buffalo Tech
RGone Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 And if you go with "Buffalo Tech" and contact this man at... I know he can recommend 2x 1gig sticks that work at stock as with 2x1gig> all bets on how far you can clock will be open to the doing. I have seen the benches and tests of the memory he recommends but not the others nor have I tested the others. I have however tested the BT in 2x1gig size. RGone...
