I'm thinking about saving up for Phase Change

Recommended Posts

Is a phase change system a good investment? I'm a college student, with a well paying part time job at a grocery store, and phase change looks like a very good investment to get the most out of cpu's. I'm looking at the Asetek Vapochill Lightspeed to go right under a Lian-Li PC-65b, will it fit this case? And do I have to do any cutting?

Investment is not the right word for Phase change. Fun cool(no pun intended) or whatever but there are plenty of things that you can spend money on for performance. dont forget that the phase change needs to constanly use eletrisity and dont last forever. They also often cause your other components to brake too. I am not saying not to get one. They are a lot of fun but they are in no way an "investment".

Which alternatives do you suggest? ;)

Danger Den watercooling ;) (thats all I use anymore on my regular rigs...ive even purchased a universal TDX waterblock so i can have water on one of my test benches)

LianLi PC65B (I have one) tho is not the best for watercooling...but if you have the $$$ to invest in phase change, buy a Coolermaster (made for watercooling most of them! I use the Stacker myself and its a BAAAAD MOFO....$170-ish), by a dual 120mm radiator, good waterblocks for your cpu + gpu, 2 pumps, a bunch of Tygon tubing, and get to town with it

I would be spending the mony on a video card sooner or later or a good monnitor if you dont already have one. It is hard to beat air latley.

That's why I like this forum, everyone's so helpful. :)

Thanks for that link angry, I actually have a lian li pc-75b, but I wonder if that reservoir (or is it a pump) would fit in my case...

Also, angry... I heard from EOCF forums that you had an AMD x2, I thought you had it under phase change?

If you go WC get the biggest case your can live with. I have the Antec soho server style case and it all barly fits and that is with just one card and one pump. I am going to get somethig like the stacker next time though the Thermaltake version looks like a better choice for me right now. When and if I go SLI I am getting a bigger case or just use the case the MB came in.

@jester:

only those that are serious enthusiasts/hobbists choose phase change. Save your money if you are not.

I just want a liquid gameplay experience (ultra high fps). That's why I'm thinking about selling my 4000+ and getting a 4400+ X2 when the price drops (hopefully) next month. I think I'm over the whole phase change solution..

i do have a 4400+ X2 ;)

it is on air at the moment (and all my testing has been done on air)

my main rig is the 4000+ San Diego that is in the OC Database (socket 939) and it is what you see in those pics linked above

Just get a better card the 6800 GT overclocked is more than enough for that in almost every game with all the eye candy and AA/AF AG swears by his dual 6600s too. For just about every game you are limited by your card it is the weakest link. You can get this a lot cheaper than phase change. a diffrent CPU is not going to help nearly as much.
