shira Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 (No system configuration because I haven't purchased the components yet. Planning on 3700+ San Diego with DFI NF4 Ultra-D. My sole remaining issue is what memory to purchase, hence this thread.) I remember reading a few posts (seems like a couple of months ago) that claimed that the use of high vdimm (above 2.9 volts) was suspected of causing early CPU death. I haven't seen anything on that subject since then. After reading those threads, I was leaning away fom OCZ Gold VX memory. But now, after reading that Venice and San Diego cores seem to have somewhat more problems with TCCD/TCC5 memory than Winchesters, I'm wondering about VX again. I understand the need for active cooling. So, is there a consensus that using a 3.3 to 3.4 vdimm 24/7 is reasonably safe for the CPU? (Note: I'd be using the 3.3-volt "trick", not the 4-volt jumper with 5-volt rail.)

shira Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Hello, http://dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12342 http://dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12687 Have a look at these. Thanks for the reply. I think I didn't express myself very clearly in my first post. I'm familiar with the j17 5V jumper issue on the DFI NF4 boards (which allegedly causes memory-death and cold-boot problems). That's why I mentioned that I'd be using the 3.3-volt-rail "trick" (to avoid that problem). I'm referring to something different here: Does high vdimm (above 2.9 vdimm) potentially cause CPU problems on ANY board? It's been alleged since long before the j17 jumper issue surfaced that high vdimm 24/7 could cause sudden CPU death. That's what I'm asking about. Voltages, timings, settings, bios version, etc. The more information you give us about the problem, and the more details about your hardware in your sig = more help we can give you. shira Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 AG: Respectfully, 'cause AG, you do and everyone else who supports this site do a great job: But doesn't ANYBODY bother reading a post? Please look at the very first paragraph of my thread: "(No system configuration because I haven't purchased the components yet. Planning on 3700+ San Diego with DFI NF4 Ultra-D. My sole remaining issue is what memory to purchase, hence this thread.)" I have no signature because I haven't built the system yet, and I haven't even purchased any of the components. I'm asking about an issue I've read about on other forums, hoping that the answer can lead me to make the best component choices (in this case, memory). But for your enjoyment, I've added a signature (my best system guess for my planned system). But honestly, my question has absolutely nothing to do with this specific system. shira Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 Maybe this will "expose" my sig.
