Guest Coyote Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Hi ... again. Finally got my Windows installation working stably (I think!), and I was looking into some other points when I realised that the removable devices icon was located in the system tray. Clicking on this gave me the option to safely remove my HDD! This isn't a major problem at the moment, but I would rather the option wasn't there in case of future problems. Have I gone wrong somewhere in my installation of Windows? Any other suggestions? Once again, apologies in advance if I have missed anything! red930 Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Nope! What you are seeing is normal operation for the nF4 chipset with SATA drives. The SATA spec has a removable drive component that is active allowing you to "swap" drives on the controller. It will always be there when you have an SATA drive attached. You can choose to "hide" the icon if you like using the TaskBar properties.
chieferich Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 I only have that option when i have the nvidia ide drivers installed. did some benchmarking last night...... found no difference in performance of my seagate sata or wd ide drive with or without nvidia ide drivers installed. same scores in hdtach and sandra tests. if you hate the icon that much, you could remove those drivers.....
