jec Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Everyone has all sorts of worries of high cpu and chipset temps. My cpu is at 38 idle and 53 under prime95 load. My chipset is 44/49. My question is: How hot is too hot? What is the worry all about? Will the comp run slower as the cpu and chipset heat up? What is the lifespan of a cpu under high heat 24/7? Also, farcry is laggy but hl2 is not. Wierd. Is this because of the chipset or the gpu?
babyelf Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 newcastles will be fine up to 55-60 max.. change ur chipset thermal paste with some AS5 i think for farcry it should be ur settings in the game.. try to turn it down abit
jec Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 i have already applied AS5 but still, whats the worry?
babyelf Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 shorter hardware life and maybe burn it when it's too hot but then A64 will shut down by itself if it's too hot.. so not much of a worry about that.. just that it'll make ur hardware's useful life shorter.. but i reckon when that time comes u'll be upgrading again
oliveryochest Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 slap on AS5 for CPU, chipset, and gpu. Temps should go down. Try not to exceed 55-60 for CPU under load. Chipset should be under 70 without problems arise. My chipset is 42-45 under load. Of course the lower temps are, the better
babyelf Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 keep ur parts cool and happy.. and they'll serve the master for a longer period of time
Atomic Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 here's and on topic question: if windows is showing processor usage @ 100% that means 100% stress on the processor, right? It doesn't matter what program is getting is to 100%. The reason i ask, i have a 3000+ Venice (non-OC) with the stock HSF and from idle to and hour @ 100% usage shown by task manager is hardly any change in temp..... maybe a 5 degree increase... I am assuming that there is so little of a change becuase i am not overclocking, correct?
jec Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Do you think, elf and olivery, that I should replace my zalman cpu cooler with an xp 90c or some mini water cooling system? Or should I just wait till the cpu burns out?
babyelf Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 what are the temps like and what's the ambient temp?

oliveryochest Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 lol, i don't think that your CPU is going to burn out. thats up to you whether you want to try something new.
jec Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 do you think the comp performance will slow down if i keep my temps as hot as they are?
