noob question

Recommended Posts

Everyone has all sorts of worries of high cpu and chipset temps. My cpu is at 38 idle and 53 under prime95 load. My chipset is 44/49. My question is: How hot is too hot? What is the worry all about? Will the comp run slower as the cpu and chipset heat up? What is the lifespan of a cpu under high heat 24/7?

Also, farcry is laggy but hl2 is not. Wierd. Is this because of the chipset or the gpu?

shorter hardware life and maybe burn it when it's too hot

but then A64 will shut down by itself if it's too hot.. so not much of a worry about that.. just that it'll make ur hardware's useful life shorter..

but i reckon when that time comes u'll be upgrading again

here's and on topic question: if windows is showing processor usage @ 100% that means 100% stress on the processor, right? It doesn't matter what program is getting is to 100%. The reason i ask, i have a 3000+ Venice (non-OC) with the stock HSF and from idle to and hour @ 100% usage shown by task manager is hardly any change in temp..... maybe a 5 degree increase... I am assuming that there is so little of a change becuase i am not overclocking, correct?

Do you think, elf and olivery, that I should replace my zalman cpu cooler with an xp 90c or some mini water cooling system? Or should I just wait till the cpu burns out?
