RahulM Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 1. Anything iffy in there? I've heard that the ram might cause problems, please help me sniff out the problematic components in here. I had to recently change the PSU from the OCZ Powerstream to the Enermax due to the unavailability of the former, though the Enermax seems to be quite a capable PSU from what I've read: CPU: AMD64 4000+ CASE: ATX Antec SLK3000B NOPS BLACK MOBO: DFI Lanparty UT NF4 Sli-DR HDD: 2x Raptor 10k RPM (RAID0) VidCard: 2x MSI 6800 Ultras Psupply: 600W Enermax Noisetaker Ram: Kingston KVR 400mhz DDR NO-ECC 2gig kit Monitor: Dell 2405FPW Extras:Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu heatsink and a Vantec 120mm Stealthfan Opt. drive:NEC 3520A 2. Also, I'll be getting the system without windows installed, didn't wanna pay 200 bucks when I already have the OS from my other PCs. Anyway, I'd just like to know in which order to install drivers, I don't even know if it would make a difference, but better to be safe than sorry. This is what I had in mind, correct me if I'm wrong: 1. Windowsupdate.com critical fixes 2. Nforce4 mobo drivers (sound, ethernet, etc.) 3. Nvidia forceware from www.slizone.com 4. Misc drivers and program installations Am I on the right track? Thanks guys, I don't want to mess up on such an expensive rig, so I appreciate any kind of help or advice you can offer. The system will be under full warranty, so I'm not too worried about wasting money, but still, it'll be a pain sending it back for fixing. babyelf Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 is that a 4000+ sandiego? i rekcon the 3700+ is a better choice.. save some money and put it to better ram.. this one maybe http://www.nintek.com.au/x/Scripts/prodVie...?idproduct=1779 and get the pioneer dvr109 instead.. tried one.. very very fast burning speed for drivers i always install chipset drivers and the ones on the disc first.. then install VGA drivers and then to other programs
RahulM Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 I'm not sure whether it is San Diego or not, the store's site simply lists this: AMD ATHLON64 4000+ 2.40G/1600/1M/S939 90NM Wow... that ram is expensive... I'll give them a call tomorrow to see if I can change it to something better but I'm not too sure I want to spend 600+ bucks on RAM. How much difference would it make if I were to switch to high-end RAM compared to the value ram?
oliveryochest Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 I would recommend one of these companies for memory. The reps are frequently on this forum to help users. I recommend not getting the Raptors just because they don't even support Sata II. OCZ Crucial Ballistix Buffalo Tech. read this. RahulM Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 But is the kingston ram decent enough? "I recommend not getting the Raptors just because they don't even support Sata II." I was under the impression that the Raptors were the best drives out there on the consumer level, what kind of advantage do Sata II supported drives have? RahulM Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Oh sorry, I meant 600$ Canadian, I'm in Montreal. EDIT: Is it good that it is San Diego?
Neutrino Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Just make sure your video card supports the LCDs native resolution (wich on some 24 inchers can be a bit unusual). Everything looks like crap on LCDs in not native rez.
babyelf Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Oh sorry, I meant 600$ Canadian, I'm in Montreal. EDIT: Is it good that it is San Diego? the price i just send to u is in australian dollar.. i don't think it's 600 canadian san diego is the better one.. don't get the clawhammer 4000+.. runs hotter than the sandiego and i'll drop the ultras to GT instead.. i reckon the GT will overclock to ultra without any problem.. i'm running the msi 6800GT at 410/1120 everyday settings.. benchable alot higher than that
RahulM Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 I think the 6800 Ultras support 1920x1200, I mean, they certainly should considering they're premium vid cards. Here is the list of ram that the store has, the 2gig ballistic and OCZ gold cost very much: http://www.microbytes.com/products.php?show=all&pcid=203 EDIT: I do not wish to overclock (at least not initially), it will void the 3 year maintenance and repair warranty from the store. Until I'm comfortable and knowledgeable enough with overclocking, I'd rather not void the warranty.
oliveryochest Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 why do you want to use 2 gigs of memory. 1gig should be enough, unless you will be running certain apps
RahulM Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 For the newer games that will be released in the upcoming weeks and months. Battlefield 2 needs quite a bit of ram to run well with the settings maxxed I've read.
