Tropikal Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 So here i was happy like a trout ( .. yes trouts are happy) thinking my oc was stable... The settings i was/am running at are here Tested MEMtest for about 15 passes overnight no errors at 2.7 GHz, booted in windows (which was obviously installed with stock speeds), ran OCCT and fine again, ran prime95 again overnight with no errors or warnings .. so i mean what can u ask more... ? most ppl are still stuck trying to pass occt at that speed.. so whatever.. I start installing my proggies and whatever else .. play a couple of games (things like LOCK-ON or Americas Army that pound on the cpu like there is no tomorrow..) and still everything is fine.. no reboots, no artifacts, just perfect. After a while though .. couple of days that is.. i start seeing wierd shizzle in windows .. can't install D-tools, cant start regedit from the run menu, cant even open the game controllers setup from the control panel.. It seems like something is getting corrupted in windows and it gets all messed up. So .. what's going on here ? Is the startup vid too low, or the vid control ? Am i giving enough V's for this thing to run flawlessly ? Also with the same settings also 2.8 GHz runs just fine as far as benchamrks go .. pass memtest, occt and prime overnight .. I don't quite get it.. Let s see what you guys make out of it !
m3talma5ter Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Just guessing here but that sounds like a virus to me. Did you run a virus scan? If so and there is no viruses maybe you could try turning everything back to stock, and see if the problem persists. If so maybe you would have to reinstall your OS. Other than that im stumped
m3talma5ter Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Oh wait maybe you should check out this : http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13083
Tropikal Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 It was a fresh XP Service pack 2 install .. and when i mean fresh i mean i installed and tested and that was all the pc ever took ... nothing else .. no email no downloads no nothing .. a virus sounds a little unlikely, especially with the built in hardware firewall.. Also .. in the thread you linked the problem seemed to be high temps, on my cpu temps were around 40~41 at full load (like when testing OCCT) which is really not all that high.. Guest Kronos Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Hmm, try upping the voltage on the CPU once. I've been running at 2750 for a few weeks without issue. It's getting over the 2800mhz barrier I'm having a problem with. 250x11 @ 2750Mhz, 1.300v + 123% 2-2-6-2 @ 3.3v vdimm BIOS 5-10-
FX-WANNA-B Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 same here 2750 is perfectly stable for me @: 250x11 @ 2750MHz, 1.425V start-up + 110%=1.53V "Stable as in Prime95 Torture test stable for 24+ hours!"
Tropikal Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 I guess that depends on the definition of stable anyone has .. I mean .. with the settings i have i am occt stable and prime stable (memtest stable doesnt classify as stable anymore). My games run fine, but some applications get me some wierd behaviour every now and then.. i duno if it is windows or the overclock... Tropikal Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Here we go with the updates: -Tested X + Y% VID = more or less 1.48v -Tested X + Y% VID didnt hold = more or less 1.52v -Testing right now at 1.300 +123% VID = more or less 1.56v (x y .. for stuff i already forgot ) I seem to have found yet another standard for benchin the stability of my rig. I was trying out the torture test on OCCT and it failed after only 1 hr 10 min. I think that if it passes about 5~6 hrs of that i should be on the safe side. Tropikal Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Setting: 1.300v +123% VID = more or less 1.56v (BIOS reading, NVmonitor reports 1.5322 for core) OK 5 hrs torture test with OCCT and everything is fine .. except for temps a bit high but i m working on that.. Angry, RGone, ExRoadie ... everybody else ... you guys think that i can consider this stable now?

It will be considered stable when you create a complete OC database entry. =)
