Help needed on Lanparty nF4 Ultra system (pics)

Recommended Posts

Ok, here is the problem. I just built a new rig with:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+

DFI Lanparty UT Ultra-D nForce 4

1GB (512x2) TwinMOS SP PC 3200 Ram

MSI 6600GT 128MB DDR

160GB Western Digital SE (raid 0)

Thermalright XP-120 HSF

and other optical drives and stuff.

So I load Windows and get all my drivers installed just fine. For fun, I want to fire up Rome: Total War and see how it looks. So I get that installed and start playing the prologue. About 15 minutes into the game, I get a BSOD saying something like nvid_driv and stuff. So I reboot and the the troubles began. Here are some pictures of typical things my computer does now.

Safe Mode Sceen

DFI Splash Screen

Windows Splash Screen

BIOS Screen

Some times it is really bad like in the pictures and it will get to the window's splash and then not ever get any further. The screen just goes black and nothing happens. When the "artifacting" is less, then it usually boots into windows but everything looks like crap.

As you can see, something isn't right. My first inclination was that it was a video driver issue. So I grabbed the latest drivers and the same things kept happening. Rolled back to original, same. So now I'm down to the video card and motherboard I think.

I am going to RMA my video card tomorrow, so if someone can give me some advice as to what exactly is going on, that would be greatly appreciated. Is there a chance this could be a motherboard problem?

Thanks!

yeah, i looks like corruption of the video from a faulty videocard. I have heard there have been problems with MSI brand 6600GT heatsinks becoming dislodged from the 6600GT die and as a result the cards overheat. Could this issue be playing in? heat damage?
