Protostar Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 Anyone have one of these optical drives...? I have had 2 of these & niether one will work properly. Nothing I try will get the drive to burn. Not a CD or a DVD. I saw on Plextors website that DFI is not mentioned as a compatible motherboard after I had bought the thing. Any thoughts or ideas are very much appreciated. Protostar Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 Hello Indie, Can you tell me how your drive is hooked up...? Which SATA port are you hooked uo to. ( Mine is hooked up to # 3 ) Did you have to do anything/change anything in Windows or the BIOS to make it work..? I have mine on #3 SATA port/installed the software from the supplied disc & even used the blank disc that came with it & I get buffer under runs . If anyone can actually help me here I would greatly appreciate it........ Proto
Protostar Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 Hello, I have a very new ( made just last month ) Plextor PX-716 SA optical drive. This is the second one of these I have had in the last month & niehter wont burn. ( ANYTHING ) I have the drive plugged into the # 3 SATA port & have power to it. The bios sees it/Windows sees it also. Software is/was installed. Every disc I put in it ... it starts to burn then stops & says I have a buffer prob or i have a prob of some sort. I wonder if somehow I am doing somthing wrong or did not configure somthing or if i need to configure somthing. I'm used to optical drives just plugging in & loading software & then going to Any help would be very welcome............. thanks

cyberfossil Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 are you using the NVIDIA IDE drivers? if so uninstall and use the standard M.S. drivers
Big B Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 I'd try different media and see what that does for ya.
JfRsQ Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 How are you uninstalling the Nvidia IDE drivers of a NF4? It seems they are loaded straight at the windows SP1 install when you are hitting F6 to install the needed drivers to use Sata Raid. I tried to remove them to use the MS ones like I was using on my old nForce2 since the nvatabus.sys is fubaring my scanner, which is USB.... lol who know what USB and IDE have to do together but oh well. Even nVidia closed this case since they were not able to reproduce it on my nf2 and the only way to be able to use my scanner was to don't use the IDE drivers from Nvidia. Since I upgraded my nf2 to a nf4, I still have the same problem between the scanner and the nvatabus When I removed the Nvidia drivers for IDE, it screwed the whole XP install...eheh, don't pass GO, don't get anything
red930 Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 Protostar, Not sure why you would start two threads about the same problem within an hour. Hopefully AG will see them and merge the two threads. There seems to be some confusion in the thread regarding drivers. The IDE drivers and RAID drivers are two different beasts. When loading the XP operating system, Microsoft IDE drives will load and support SATA drives. When you load the nVidia chipset drivers, you have the option of NOT loading the nVidia IDE drivers. Some forum members have resolved disk problems by only using the Microsoft IDE drivers. You do not need the nVidia RAID drivers unless you are installing a RAID array. Have you tried a different SATA cable for your drive? Have you tried a different SATA port? Have you checked to make sure you don't have RAID enabled for that particular port? Atomic Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 ...or if you have installed the nvidia IDE drivers already, you can go to add/remove programs, choose "nvidia drivers" and remove just the IDE drivers.
Protostar Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 Hey guys, Thanks for the post backs. Here is the situation. I have a SATA Plextor PX-716 SA burner. I did make a mistake in the bios & I had SATA port 1234 all turned on. But, I have since turned off 3 & 4. As soon as I did that & re-booted Windows gave me a pop up baloon detecting the drive. That's the good news. Bad news is I still ca'nt burn. I am using Maxell discs ( a good name brand ) & when I try to burn just a cpl songs the error i get is ( invalid field in cd6 ) Anybody have a clue what the heck that means...? By the way ( Exroadie ) thanks for the tip on the RAID setting. My bad on that 1. Next I will try a diff SATA port. It should'nt matter but I will try it. Thanks for the feedback guys. As for osting twicw my thoughts were of posting to DFI-street folks & also to anyone from DFI who might have an answer. Thanks again guys............. I really want to run this thing. Guest Booger Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 Mine's working good, NOW. My first one's dvd lense assembly went bad and wouldn't recognize or burn dvd's after a month of usage. It worked flawlessly until that point, and the replacement works beautifully as well. What application are you using to burn with? Have you gotten any of the "malfunction" blink codes from the faceplate LED? Mine told me exactly what was wrong with itself with the codes. They are listed in the manual and on plexy's website if you think it could apply. You might also run the self diagnostic routine described in the manual which utilizes the supplied jumper to enable that mode. These things will all help eliminate and/or narrow down possible reasons for your trouble. BTW: Last ditch is to enable PIO mode through device manager IDE controller properties and see if that changes anything.
