Atomic Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 I have OCZ BH-5 PC3200 RAM installed in my computer, but it won't go to its advertised timings. When everything is set to auto, 2.6V, the mobo sets the ram to 2.5-3-3-7, and it can run memtest without errors. But, when I set voltage to 2.8v (runs as more like 2.9V) and set the timings to 2-2-2-5 (the rated spec) and leave everything else at auto, it gets loads of memtest errors, always on test 8, but no other tests. Why is it always on this one test? is it whack RAM? or (more likely) am i just doing something wrong? *Additional Info* i ran it last night for 10 hours, and it got 23 pass and 665 errors, always on test 8. Freezer26 Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 You should go check out the stickys at the top of the forum, look for the "How to" part and there is alot of information that will help you on your way. (hence all the other settings being at Auto) Good Luck
Atomic Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 well when i set the "recommended settings" from the memory FAQ i got like 20,000 errors, everything was getting errors and the guide was obviosly having me set the timings too tight for my poor ram, so now i am here--would it be wise to update to the 510-2 bios? i am wary of updating the bios, because other than this, the comp is working perfectly, and i like staying with an "official" bios. Freezer26 Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 That BIOS is highly reccommended by A_G and well me since I have had zero problems with it. I would at least try that or the 3/16 I think which I think is the newest Official BIOS. I think the 510-2 is based off of the 3/16 so either would be fine, which BIOS are you currently using? Bottom line is that your memory 'should' run at specs. EDIT: Nvm I see now.
Atomic Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 so.... i am still running the same bios (3-10) but i went back and looked at the guide, and it said for BH5 you can use drive strength of 6 or 8. Before i was using 6, but i just set it to 8 and was able to run test 8 of memtest (the one that was causing me problems) with 7 passes and no errors at 2-2-2-5 1T @200Mhz. should it need this to make it through memtest without errors? Is drive strength 8 harmful to the ram?
oliveryochest Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 no, it is not harmful. but i would recommend you using the 510-2 bios.
Atomic Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 yeah, i'll probably end up upgrading to that, but i am glad to have gotten this RAM up to stock!

EL_ Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 Atomic I was in the same boat as you with bh5 and no love I upgraded to 510-2 and now I could not be happier. Get the bios cd works great in the stickies. I will also check my drive strength to see if I have it set to 6 or 8 in the 5-10-2 bios.
Atomic Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 ^thanks for checking on that, I have the RAM under control now, but am curious to see if the 510-2 bios will let me drop the drive strength to 6.
