VDimm - false readout?

Recommended Posts

Today I found out, that the VDimm shown in the BIOS is 0.1V higher than it is set in BIOS. Is this a power supply, BIOS or RAM related problem? The other values seem to be ok:

Smartguardin shows me a lower increased VDimm of 2.68V.

take a multimeter to the seventh pin on the bottom of one of the empty ram slots while the comp's on and get the true rating. If it's still too high check the 3.3v rail on the psu and see if it's within spec (as the orange inputs are 3.3v, mash the multimeter head into the back of one on the main motherboard power connector and stick the ground in a molex or something else's black line.) Alternately you can unplug everything and jump the psu (green and black with a paperclip) and test the 3.3v rail with a little less hazard...

A "no load" reading is virtually worthless. You must be loading the PSU with the actual components to get a valid reading.

True to an extent... it would still give an idea of whethor the psu was putting out an unreasonable amount on the 3.3v. The 3 comps at my house show no visible droop in the 3.3v under load, only the 12v (35 watt deltas...)
