philadendron Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 Well, I'm still loving my DFI rig, but I just got a laptop for all my computing tasks that aren't gaming related (or so I thought). But I figure the laptop would be perfect for games that aren't all twitchy. Also, I'm going on a vacation in the summer and I want some games that I can leisurely play on my laptop. Mind you, it's a Dell 700m with integrated graphics, so don't go recommending any FPS's. I was thinking along the lines of an RTS or RPG, something that could be played with a touch pad if need be. What do you guys think, though? I'll start it off: -Fallout 2 -Civilization series (though I've never actually played one)
Angry_Games Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 i use my IBM T20 (700Mhz P3) for SNES/Sega emulator (and some MAME emu) and it works out perfect...got a cheap $4 gamepad + my optical mouse and I have a blast
philadendron Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 Ah, good point. Some Shadowrun on a Genesis emulator would be cool. Anyone know of a good game along the lines of Fallout? I don't usually go for RPGs, but I spent so much cherished time with Fallout. I think what was so appealing was the fact that it wasn't all mages and magic and stuff, it was more realistic. Thanks. Malaniken Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 Bejeweled, Motherload Goldium by Xgen Studios. Another vote for Snes emulators, there's so much fun right there: tetris, Mario series, Donkey Kong, etc.
Shinobi Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 How do you like Point and Click Adventures? I'm currently playing a good one, Midnight Nowhere, and there are many other decent Point & Clickers out there
philadendron Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 Point and click, do you mean the Syberia game that all the critics seem to love? Never tried one (since Myst when I was ten).
Shinobi Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 Yes those are the ones. There are different types, the ones where you can see your character(like Midnight Nowhere, Broken Sword etc) and ones performed from a First Person View such as Myst... Perfect games for a LapTop i'd say. I enjoy them. If you like games that really test your brain with some tough puzzle solving then you probably will too. They generally don't tend to be that graphically demanding either. Midnight Nowhere which is a horror title that i'm playing at the moment only requires a PentiumII 400mhz or equivelant, 64mb Ram etc. Graphically it looks quite nice too
tristancarton Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 grim fandango and the longest journey. both top notch adventure games,

Baldur's Gate 1/expansion and Planescape: Torment are both great RPGs... nothing like the plethora of Diablo 2 clones with the "rpg" name slapped on. Alpha Centauri/expansion is an awesome game if you're into the Civ series.
txmale36 Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 i still think with integrated graphics your gonna be limited on what you can play. even with some of the games mentioned above.

Nah, he should be fine with older titles TX. I've coped with just onboard graphics in the past. He may have to turn down the effects on some though... Alexia Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I used a beast laptop to play SNES games on SNES9X at lunch time in high school. The laptop was a 97mhz Compaq Armada. The battery was shot and only gave about fifteen minutes of life, but just enough to squeeze in a few games of Sailor Moon puzzle fighter against a friend.
