USB 2.0 - Slow Speed

Recommended Posts

I just got an external HDD for my computer to store extra file. I know USB 2.0 is 480 Mbps but I am downloading at problably USB 1.1 speeds. I contacted my External HDD manufacture and they said to talk to DFI since it is a problem with my USB 2.0 Host controller or something like that.

I tried the external HDD in my friends machine and It is 100's of times faster copying things to and from his computer.

I thought I would post this here and see if anyone can help me, before I contact DFI.

Anyone else know how to solve this problem or have this problem??

did you just put the computer togethter? did you ever install the NForce 4 drivers from the DFI CD? you need to do that if you haven't. Just put the CD-ROM in your drive and clikc the "nforce 4" button when it autoruns.

you must have SP1 or SP2 for WindowsXP if you want USB2.0 to work

YOU DO NOT NEED USB2.0 DRIVERS FOR WIN2k/WINXP IF YOU HAVE LATEST SERVICE PACKS!

you need to make your sig more detailed...and include what psu you have please

also make sure if you are using front-port USB hubs (ie your case's front USB ports) that they fully support USB2.0 (I have a case that claims all hubs are USB2.0 but they aren't...all the controllers on the board ARE USB2.0 tho)

I stand corrected on the driver side of things :shake:

I'm only using the ones on the rear of the computer. I shouldn't have to do anything at all? they'll just work? I don't have any high-speed transfer devices anymore, so only my mouse is hooked up to it at the moment. How do I tell if they're enabled and working?
