ljames Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 I just got one and the darn thing is so Quiet! I am a little apprehensive about the fans running so slow! I connected the case fans there is 6, they all look like 80 mm size, I connected them to the Fan only connector. 3 to 1 connector and 2 to the other 1, side window fan would not get enough power to light up the led's so I molex it, They all spin so slow even the PSU fan, Is this norm? Never owned a decent PSU before, CPU at idle averages 47- 49 deg C and up to 53-54 C running lite apps in windows. Any enlightment will be Great! especially if some of you have this one. PSU: Antec NEO 480 w KICK A-- Thanks for any feed back or advice!

Smoken Joe Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 The fans are temp controlled if you have a good case and temps are good they wont spin too fast. If your temps get too high you can put them on a regular molex. I would run prime to make sure those temps are OK on your cpu. karl pell Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 You can, and should, calculate the load that you're asking the ps to carry. Doing so is simple but tedious. First, read and understand the specs provided by the manufacturer on the label on the PS. Second, build a spreadsheet describing your components and their demands ... http://www17.tomshardware.com/howto/200401...upplies-04.html in Tom's Hardware is a table that you can use to build a spreadsheet to describe your system. Using the data available on the stickers on most of your hardware, calculate the demands of each piece on the rails it uses (i.e. Seagate 160gb pulls 0.72A on the 5V, 0.35A on the 12V). Once you've described all of your components and their needs (known or estimated) and summed up the loads on each rail compared to the specs, you'll feel better (or worse) about your fan speeds. That is a great thing to do before you get a PSU unfortunatly there is so much fudge factor involved in the makers claims that it can get you in trouble. It would be a lot better in my opinion to test with benchmarks for stability as recomended for the DFI Overclocking Databace not that PSU is the only issue. Next time you just might see if people with the same system have good luck with the PSU you are going to get. Fortunatly most love there Antec 480's though I would prefer OCZ PS(not that I am biased ) or a Blue Storm.
vega27 Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 i have this PSU as well and i've noticed it's fans don't spin very fast in my case, either. but i have pretty good case cooling so... here's a decent wattage calculator for anyone who's interested. LOVE your PSU guide, Mr. Hammock! /:spam:
davidhammock200 Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 I wouldn't put more than 2 fans on each temp controlled "fan only" connector & attach the others directly to the +12V. GL

Good point, Joe, but two factors recommend doing it anyway: First, something will always be different between two systems (Oh, my bad, forgot to mention that I was running TWO of those ...) and second, just going through the exercise will give the user a solid feel for his headroom on the PS ... really helpful when you're thinking about adding to the rig. Makers claims ... well, you can develop a feel for this. Antec, in my experience, is conservative. Their gear will give you what's on the sticker all day long. Some of the info is very, very difficult to come by ... imagine, though, all the cool stuff you'll discover in ferreting that out. cwa4me Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 I have no problems with any fans I'm turning 3-120s 2 led, 1-92mm tornado, 3-80mm led an having great temps 24c-26c idle, and under a load 36c-38c . This is a great psu for the price.
ljames Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 Thanks Guy's, for the feed back, think I will connect the top fan to a molex! That will be just 2 80mm fans on ea Fan only connection.
