NF4 Ultra-D> Drive Detection?

Recommended Posts

I am having issues with drive detection in BIOS on my NF4 Ultra-D. It will sometimes detect one of my 4 drives. THis was OK because Windows would detect the drives. Now it wont detect any, and I can no longer boot.

I have checked the jumpers, and swapped out the IDE cables. Everything is plugged in correctly.

OK, here is what I have done so far:

I was finally able to flash to the 510-2 BIOS. The BIOS now seems to detect all the drives correctly. However, after this, the system sits at POST for what seems like an eternity, then gives me a DISK BOOT FAILURE.

The only way I can get the system to boot into windows off the HD, is by telling BIOS to boot off CD-ROM *only*, and put the windows CD in the CD-ROM. This really is confusing the heck out of me how it is set to boot off CD but then boots off the HD.....help is really appreciated.

BIOS is all defaults except boot order...

The OCZ RAM is in the Yellow slots.

is the hard disk with the MBR set as first boot device in the bios?

Maybe what he is saying here is in your HD selection(I forget what its called) right above boot order, hit enter and make sure the MBR drive is in the 1 position.

Hope thats what you meant Cyber...

is that NeoPower a true 24-pin psu? (I dont have any Antec psu's and not familiar with them other than they have a bad rep as being weak troublesome psu's, but again i dont have one so i can only guess at what they are really like)

IT is a 24 pin PSU, and everywhere I have heard this one is good.

I just re-flashed the 510-2 BIOS following the instructions in the sticky.

Here is the way I have the drives set up:

Channel 0 Master: Boot Drive (HD)

Channel 0 Slave: CD-ROM

Channel 1 Master: HD

Channel 1 Slave: CD-ROM

Freezer- I know what you are talking about for the HDD Boot Order. THe boot drive is first drive in the list. However, this is irrevelant as it wont boot if HD is anywhere on the boot order. In order to boot I must do this:

1) Set CDROM as First Boot Device and leave all others as Disabled

2) Place Windows XP CD in CD-ROM

3) Boot PC, wait 5 minutes for POST

4) After "CMOS Backup OK!", message to "press any key to boot from CD" appears, I wait.

5) PC promptly boots into Windows as if nothing happened.

Really starting to get at wits end now....
