Recency Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Hello: I have chosen three power supplies that I am interested in purchasing for a Ultra D NForce4 motherboard. However I only need one and would like to know what ps would be more preferable between the following: (1). Coolmax CL-550 ATX 12V http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16817159038 or maybe this: (2). Xion powerReal XON-600F14-TN-ATX http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16817190004 or maybe this (3). FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX500 http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16817104934
jetta_mkiii Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 I've found coolmax to be very unreliable- they also have zero customer service. Personally ive never heard of Xion , but I do know that FSP is just about the cream of the crop when it comes to PSU's.
PSS Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Out of those 3 the Forton is best, but I would pick an Enermax, Antec or OCZ.
magg Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Fortron is the one I'd choose out of those, it's pretty good, but why would you skimp on the most important part of the system? Get a PowerStream if you can afford it, it won't let you down.
Recency Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Thanks for the relpy. I am considering the FSP more but wasn't quite sure if it had enough power for future SLI and graphic card upgrades.
txmale36 Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 i dont think thats enough for sli though . especially with the power hungry g70 coming out. i would move up to a better psu if your thinking of future sli.
davidhammock200 Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Thanks for the relpy. I am considering the FSP more but wasn't quite sure if it had enough power for future SLI and graphic card upgrades. The Fortron is the only good one in that group, but it can not handle a pair of 6800GT/U's.Although called 500W, it is only 460W & the combined +12V rails are limited to a combined total of only +12V@24A. The Fortron 550W EPS in the PSU Guide has more than enough & is cheaper too!
