weird logon problem

First i apologize if this is in the place, now on to my problem. For the last couple of days when i turn my rig on it never gives my an option of selecting which profile to choose mine of the guest could someone please help me.

sounds like somehow a 'guest' account got turned on...better check for viruses, spyware, and go into the guest account (from your main admin account) and root around in the documents, browswer cache/cookies etc

I did all of that but either I'm doing someting wrong or it's something else. Can anyone else give me a hand

So are you logging on with your profile?........asuming you are part of a workgroup, not a domain. Go into control panel and open users account. See if guest account is turned off. If it is, turn it on. Now when you boot it should bring you to the logon screen.

I should of stated that I already have the guest acct turned on and I still get no choice between mine or the guest acct

Did you try turning it off. Rebooting then turning it back on?

You can also delete the guest profile in C:Documents and Settings.

May want to try this as well when the guest profile is off.

Oh, also try creating another limited users account as well.

Give this a shot.

 

Go into Control Panel>Users. Make sure "Fast User Switching" is turned on.

 

Then go to Start> Run and type in "control userpasswords2" and hit enter.

 

Towards the top of the dialoge box, check the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer." selection and answer OK.

 

Reboot and see if it works.

does control userpasswords2 mean you can see their passwords or change them if you are on admin? or what does that do.

userpasswords2 is a dialogue box left over from Win2K. The only time I use it is to correct this problem.

 

You will have to do some research on Win2K forums.

First I want to thank everyone for there help, now the good news is I took StephenC's advice and created a limited user acct and now it works but here's my concern, i'm not sure if I should delete it or keep it ( yes I know I could delete it and if it goes back to it's evil way's I could just re-add the ltd user acct) but does anyone know, if not i'll give it a try later. That would be up up to you......If no one is using this profile....delete it. If you need to add a limited user account later, then it can be added. So is your account password protected?
