Static electricity

just wondering, what can static elec. kill on a comp and how would you know if something is affected by static? :angel:

A sharp pain accompanied by a flashing blue arc of light is a bad thing.

 

You can actually pop something with a static discharge that you can't feel. Just about any component can be affected.

you can blow up a million transistors/bridges in a microchip with a simple static shock...always touch the unpainted metal of your case (i grab right onto the psu) with a psu installed and plugged into the wall to make sure you ground yourself out ;)

i always work on a grounding mat or use a grounding band when i assemble my rigs (usually grounding band)

Let's not bring up the :shake: fat back-ended cat and his ability to generate static electricity while walking across speaker wires. ExRroadie's solution to the .....nvm. I said too much. PETA would get involved and that's just messy.
