Guest Hybrid Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 Which sata controller would be better to use with this mobo to boot with? I'm thinking about using x64 and I dont know how the drivers are used with the nf4 controller for 64 bit. the si3114 has x64 drivers for windows so should i use that? I dont want to screw up my system with incompatible drivers so I appreciate the advice. And btw, yes I'm using a sata hard drive to boot with. Loxguard Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 The NVRaid SATA ports go through the IDE channel, so you can boot from SATA on them without any special drivers. I'd suggest using the NVRaid over the Si3114.
Guest Hybrid Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 But does nf4 have a 64 bit sata driver I can put on a floppy and boot with? I hope so...
Loxguard Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 You don't need a SATA driver if you're using the NVRaid SATA ports. Correction: You don't need a SATA driver for the NVRaid SATA ports UNLESS you're planning on using a RAID setup. If you're using a single driver, you don't need drivers. Guest Hybrid Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 So let me get this straight. If you're Installing XP (x64) and it asks you if you want any extra drivers, you say no and just let it auto detect the hard drive? Thats alot easier if it works like that. You are correct sir, as long as you plug your SATA drive into SATA port 1, 2, 3, or 4.
