ricey Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 the powerstream will be the best choice out of the few now at the moment.. u got your motherboard yet? there's a good place to get them.. they had a promotion on the ultra-D a while ago at $199 and i think there's a whole bunch of people who got them that time.. and if u want sli action u can get the sli-d or sli-dr from them too.. check them out.. www.nintek.com.au I have to agree; nintek is a great shop  . Better for me though, as I live in Perth (their home town) and I get free delivery for any order of $200 or over . I have used them several times, and they are efficient, informed and reliable (and cheap ). I got my DFI LP nF4 SLi DR from them and they were $20 AU cheaper than any other supplier in Australia at the time (and free delivery ). A great PC parts price search engine for us Aussies is static ice. I agree with babyelf, the OCZ Powerstream is the better psu of those listed. babyelf, u r in Oz as well? ricey

red930 Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 I'm working with the OCZ PowerStream 600 right now. This thing is as strong as a bull. I had it in my nF3 250Gb with 11 hard drives and the rails didn't budge a bit. Quite outstanding reserve power. It doesn't have the "whisper" technology so it has a noticable fan noise in my computer room. Also, the OCZ is 7 inches long versus 5.5 inches for a standard PSU. It cost more than any PSU I have ever purchased but it is one rock solid unit so far. What do you think of the OCZ 600Watt PowerStream? Possibilities on that too. FutureDFI Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 for those from Australia where Topower are available look at the review of Topower 686P6 http://www.dansdata.com/top686p6.htm and a review of OCZ Powerstream 600W http://www.cluboverclocker.com/reviews/pow...powerstream600/ If u see the pics PSUs are identical with absence of LEDs on Topower. also u can see topowers web site at http://www.topower.com.tw/En_default.asp Also there are links for two excellent PSUs reviews at xbitlabs, the only site that uses a little more than a Multimeter and bios monitor for reviewing PSUs. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/other/display/atx-psu.html http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/other/dis...werful-psu.html regards
red930 Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 Hey check out these two just wondering if either was any good, both seem to have good ampage http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp...N82E16817182004 http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp...N82E16817153024 The Rosewill is crap. Stay as far away as possible from them. The Thermaltake is much better. If you're gonna spend that much money get an OCZ. Great PSU with a killer warranty and company support in the forum. See my sig. If you want to save some bucks look at this... http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp...N82E16817104934 The Blue Storm has gained quite a reputation on this forum and others. I have one and it has been rock solid. One Blue Storm would not start after I was changing rigs in the case. Not sure if I made a mistake or the PSU had a problem but the egg did the RMA no problem. RB2002 Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 I'm not leaning towards the OCZ because of the ampage. The OCZ looks a lot weaker than the Thermaltake. OCZ : Output +3.3V@28A, +5V@45A, +12V@26A, [email protected], -12V@1A, [email protected] Thermaltake: Output +3.3V@30A, +5V@30A, +12V1@18A, +12V2@18A, [email protected], +5VSB@2A The 12v rail adds up to 36A before the split and it beats the OCZ in every other ampage related area too. Granted its a little more expensive than the OCZ but it looks like its a little bit (24 bucks) better. I'm not necessarily looking for cheaper i'm looking for a PSU with juice to run my board plus SLI w/ a little juice left to overclock my comp a little bit.
red930 Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 I'm not leaning towards the OCZ because of the ampage. The OCZ looks a lot weaker than the Thermaltake. Looks can be decieving! Based upon your general replies to the posts and your stated selections, I see you are more interested in how the PSU looks than how it works. If you are still interested in getting a PSU that works, more than how it looks, think about this... The Thermaltake gets its ratings at "peak" power. The OCZ can generate "peak" power above what it is rated at for over a minute.
