GermaniumGenie Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 I am about to build a new system, and I want to know if it is worth it be an early adopter and get an early Venice chip. Do they overclock well or should I wait until they "mature"?
Angry_Games Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 get a San Diego... slightly more expensive (or less depending on who is advertising them) Rgone and I dont have a Venice...but we both have a San Diego (3700+ and 4000+) that will do 100% stable @ 2880/2946Mhz and will boot to 3000Mhz on air (so im pretty sure we'll see some 3Ghz+ clockers soon)
Guest DrAgO Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 Hmm, ive heard a lot about this San Diego, Myself is building a new rig, and ive pre ordered a Venice but if the San Diego is better then hell im going to cancell venice and get san diego. Does the Nf4 SLI-DR latest bios support san diego? or has it always =s
ksgant Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 Is the 3700+ San Diego the ADA3700DAA5BN? And also, asking DrAgO's question again, does the nf4 SLI-DR need the latest bios for san diego? 3/10? Or does it really matter?

RGone Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 Actually, I have too much testing yet to do and am not ready to part with the processsor at all. Let me tell you a little about stuff in general and why I would only get a SanDiego. I kept hearing thru the grapevine that new "E" stepping cpus would not clock. I heard but never went to look that they gave one problem on one brand and another problem on another brand. But this time I "by choice" did NOT go do any reading at Extreme or other places where the "E's" were being tested. Just too much early BS for me. Glad I left off the BS and just took the new processor and put it in with a clear and not previously decided mindset. In fact made a special effort and flashed the 1/25/05 shipping bios onto the board before shutting down to install the SanDiego. Has some UTT stuff in the memory slots and had been doing some testing with it. SanDiego and board acted complete nuts and fools after I passed 220FSB and appeared to have corrupted the bios. I said shett. But as in all things on these tough @ss boards I was able to shutdown and flash the bios to the 3/16/05 my favorite and put in my TCCD and make my way around and learn a little about the reactions of the new SanDiego and see the "error of MY ways". AH HAH, new cpu with redesigned memory controller and many of my "old" winchester settings did NOT hold true with new cpu. Goldang it. There was no one for me to run to and whine to or complain but only me to STOP and think what in hale had changed and go back to square one as if I had just setup a brand new computer, which in essence was true because the cpu is not only the cpu but also now the memory controller. After I tuned it up for SanDiego and got my head out of my @ss and realized it was all new and to react accordingly the sumbeech took off. Then I went to the other sites and looked around and the major flaw I see the users having trouble with the new "E" stepping is with "thinking" they still are on their previous winchester cpu and they are not. So since I now speak fairly fluent SanDiego and know for my ownself that it works so slick and so smooth and yet see early Venice adopters with some problems> there is no way I personally would recommend other than a 3700 SanDiego since most want to run at 3700 like speeds and get the 1mb L2 cache which in the course of using a computer will be better than 512 L2. It is why I say SanDiego over a Venice at this time. Here in the US the price between the 3800 Venice and the SanDiego is next to nothing. In some overseas markets the early SanDiego is really cheaper than the Venice ( go figure ) and so again it is SanDiego for me. That is about all I know of the current state of affairs this morning.
