Guest Joalaielna Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 I should of said that my budget is under 1000.00 Thanks.
Angry_Games Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 if your budget is under 1k, then i would get a 3500 Clawhammer ($267.00 right now at the egg) instead, and put the money towards some better ram, psu, and vid card. BF2 is gonna be a taxer for sure  1GB of OCZ (contact an OCZ rep here and ask them for recommendations for what you want to do within the budget you have)  SLI-D = Leadtek will have some 6600GT SLI kits at newegg pretty soon...ive got some lower end Chaintech 6600GT's that are crushing Doom3 @ 127FPS (1024x768x32-bit @ High Detail). Its either spend $400-ish for 6600GT SLI kit, or spend $400 on a single 6800GT/X800XT card.  BF2 will more than likely run very well with 6600GT SLI (especially as when it comes out the drivers will be even better!)   power supply - Fortron 500w Bluestorm, Skyhawk 520w or better, OCZ 520w or better...get the right psu right off the bat.  heatsink - Thermalright XP-90 aluminum + 92mm adjustable fan = all you ever need  hdd - Hitachi SATA II 80GB drives @ about $70 or less each at the Egg. Crazy burst speeds when SATA II 3.0Gb/s enabled. Nice drives even for standard use. Not a Raptor...but not a cheeseball UDMA66 drive either lol. Nice 3 year warranty also.   stuff - stuff is stuff...you didnt really mention what you were gonna bring from the old rig...but you said HTPC for it so i assume nothing coming over and all new parts needed... ProfessorChaos Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 your not going to get a lot for < $1000 if your expecting Mobo/CPU/Video Card/RAM. But if you just want Mobo/CPU/Vid Card... Â Prices from monarch computer DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D $139 http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/m...uct_Code=110224 AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 1MB 90nm Rev. E Retail Box $344 http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/m...uct_Code=120273 eVGA GeForce 6800 Ultra 256MB PCI-E $499 http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/m...uct_Code=190149 Â Total: $139+$344+$499 = $
Guest Joalaielna Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 I have the Harddrives, I'll pull one of them over from my current system. I Like the idea of Doing the SLI Kit. I will need a new case, My case is way to small. So basically i need the Mobo, CPU, Ram, and Vid's.
Angry_Games Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 the THermaltake Shark case did have a $40 mail in rebate (making it $109) which was a steal...dont think that is going on anymore  LianLi makes good cases  Chieftech is the old favorite and standby  CM Stacker is for a hardcore dude with lots of drives and water/phase cooling  too many cases and too many opinions...that one is purely up to you  get some of those good SATA II 80GB 8mb cache hdd's..they'll do you fine
Guest Joalaielna Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 I was wondering if i should Wait and purchase a Dual Core processore? Any thoughts? Advantages or disadvantages? Thanks
Angry_Games Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 gonna be waiting a long time (4-6months at the earliest) for dual cores  A64 is a killer upgrade right now  besides, it will be about 12 months after dual core cpu's come out before you software that REALLY takes advantage of it
