mbaylor Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 I have my entire computer configured and ready to go, but can't decide whether to get a Venice core. Has anyone seen a drastic improvement over the Winchester core, and what benefit have you had? For instance, I am getting 1 GB ram, and I know that upgrading to 2GB(thinking of upgradeability here) causes issues with the Winnie memory controller. Does the Venice resolve this issue, and is it worth the wait?
Angry_Games Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 memoryman (Bruce @ Buffalo Tech) has some 1GB modules that do very well on a Winchester cpu. I have a 4000+ San Diego, but no Venice. If I were you, I would go for the San Diego core with the 1MB L2 cache instead (especially if you are a gamer)
mbuc310 Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 please explain the difference between the clawhammer and the sleghammer. Both look to be the same at 4000+.
Angry_Games Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 Sledge = opteron Claw = opteron core but on a 939 package (Opterons are 940 pins with 3 HTT links, Athlon64's are 939 pins with 2 HTT links) basically same cores better than a standard winchester core (most Claw/Sledge cores are FX- series cpu's downgraded but in name only, and no ability to raise cpu multi, only lower it)
