amd64 mobile vs. amd64

is there any difference between mobile and dtr besides default voltages of 1.4V and 1.5V? why does the mobile 3400+ cost significantly more than the 3400+ DTR ($243 vs. $209)?

vega, amd takes chips and runs them at specific voltages and speeds. if they pass certain tests then they are binned accordingly. generally chips that run at lower temps and voltages overclock better. (the 62w 1.4v mobile) however that is not always the case and there are always exceptions.

oh binning means seperating based on a standard.

thanks for the help, tc. i'm helping a friend pick out components for a new rig. i'm trying to tell him to wait for turion but he's really gettin ansy... dunno how much longer he can hold out!

in your opinion, is the extra $ for the mobile worth it, opposed to getting an equivalent DTR? would a mobile possibly have better memory controllers or would there be no difference at all in this area?

the rig in question will be air cooled, probably with an xp-120, with pretty decent case cooling and premium ram.

vega, if you are choosing between the two i would spend the extra money for the 3400 mobile. that being said if you can wait for the 3400 mobiles to hit 90nm i would. not talking about turion. talking about process change for dtr and mobiles to 90nm.(this is not turion) we got a few 25w mt-34 turions over at xs and those do not overclock as well as you would expect. (i was really hoping for san diego numbers)

yeah, i saw the announcement for the new mobile 3700+ .90nm. but that probably won't be out for awhile.

i've been following rabbi's turion thread very closely, btw. yes, a little disappointing so far. maybe the 35w chips will OC a little more maybe, who knows?

thanks for all the info. 'preciate it!
