Onboard network card issues.

Recommended Posts

Ok, to start off, this is my first post :), sorry for it being a 'support' type question.

Ok, I have had my LP NF4 for a while now, however I have problems with both onboard network cards.

Problem one (Marvell): The network card seems to lag out and some times drop off the line. I have looked and found that I am getting errors in windows and linux of 'interne software errors' of 'can not read VDP keys' This makes the network card unusable.

Problem two (Nvidia): This card works fine, in general (both windows and linux) However it seems to just drop of the line too, and it will not come back up until I turn the computer off and pull the power plug out of the PSU. When this happens I see on the swtich that its activity indicator is blinking very fast. A normal reboot will not fix this issue, I must turn all power off to the system. Note, that this happens when I am in windows or linux.

Questions that I see that are commonly asked.

Yes, I have entered in the MAC listed on the mobo in to the bios.

Yes, I have tried all the different settings in the bios for each network card.

My power supply is 380watts with dual 12v rails.

I have the latest 3/10 bios installed.

Mobo: LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D

CPU: AMD64 3200+

RAM: CORSAIR PC3200+ (some stuff with silver heat sinks)

VID: 6600GT

PSU: 380watt dual 12v rail.

I am open to any suggestions and will re try stuff that I have already tried. At this point I don't care which onboard one works so long as at least one works with out problems.

Welcome zeeklancer,

Lets get some housekeeping out of the way. Put you rig specs in your sig.

http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/usercp.php?

You can change your sig to reflect a specific problem you're having like this one. Get as specific as possible.

Now to the problems.

The indicators point to a problem at the other end of the cable. The odds of both NICs having a problem that is so similar is way up there.

I have a problem with my nF3 connecting reliably to network devices that use the Marvell brand ports. I use a 3com switch to connect to my Linksys router to avoid the problem since Linksys uses Marvell ports.

Your PSU is really under the recommendation of 480W. See this link...

Post back when you get these issues resolved.

Ok I have added a sig ;)

I do have a 480, that was a type or someting... I double checked to make sure :)

Ok I have pulled out my netgear swtich and the Nvidia one acts the same, will test the non nvidia one in a second, however I see from google that the non nvidia one might be a bios/hardware issue.. From where I am now the Nvida one now does not work on 2 different swtiches and does not work long when it does work. Turnning the computer off doe snot fix the issue, the computer MUST be removed from all power, eg, the plugg must be pulled, which I find this very odd!

Any help would be great :)

Thanks :)

That sounds like you are running the ethernet driver from the 6.39 standalone driver set. That ethernet driver hardly works for many.

RGone...
