Chaos Snake Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 Well the only thing that I wasn't to exicted about on my NFII LanParty was the stock NB cooling. I normaly just keep my case open and have no fans running, but with watercooling the CPU I had almost no fans moving air through my case. Well yesterday I was pawing through one of the local conputer salvage shops and happened across a big box of misc fans. So I got an idea. I grabbed a old 40mm fan for $.80 and picked up 4 screws at the hardware store (4 X $.08). Went home and used a pare of pliers to pinch the 4 corner fins of the stock heatsink together put the fan on and ran the screws between the pinched together fins of the heatsink. After unpluging all my fans again, and kicking my computer on, I found that I had droped 6 degrees C. of my NB temp. I'm very happy, it was a cheep fix and my computer is nice and quite again. Shinobi Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 Yep, i've always had that idea. Got a couple of old 40mm Fans here in case i ever decide to get round to doing it. Just a bit wary of it looking ghetto so may just a Northbridge Chipset cooling heatsink/fan instead. The stock Heatsink on the Infinity and Lanparty do suck your right... Btw Chaos Snake, how do you monitor your NorthBridge Temps?
Chaos Snake Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 I chech it real unofficial like, i just wedged a temp probe under as fat as i could get it, and only leave it there if I change things. That and I keep an eye on the bios readings and the Hardware doctor program. And as far as the getto look, I've already thought of that to so in the near future (before the next lanparty) I'll just spray paint the fan some UV reactive color, HEHEHE.
