much appreciated, Lith! thx!

i'll try it again at home... i wanna run it on default 250, set trc/trfc on auto, see what they pulled out (i have infinity board, might have different results). then go from there. it seem to like 2.8V better in my setup, abit more stable during prime and setting it on 3-4-4-8/2T seems better on 258. So far so good. 259 and it crashed lol.

sorry if i turn this to an oc thread. i'll stop here and move to the oc forum ;)

edit: here's my ocdb entry using the old bios

http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.p...9&postcount=163

here's a thread i made after i flash teh bios and i couldnt get the same setting prime stable

http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=55440

the bios changed and it used to be prime stable on 3-4-4-8 1T at 258Mhz, but now even at 2T, Prime only last for 1hour at the same speed :( new BIOS is still all auto.... im still figuring out the best settings.....

ps: i dont really need anything higher at 258 coz my max CPU is 2.8-ish, and i dont have 180 dram divider, only 166, and so that gives me 258Mhz on dram. going 280x10 CPU, i couldnt (i wish) get the dram at 280 to use the 200 dram divider....

Sounds good! I've got a ton of paying work for the next couple of days, so I am only skimming the forums at the moment. But I'll be back and look at your entry and thread closer maybe tonight.

Just a quick comment; my vdimm settings appear a good .1v more when in the bios or XP and MBM. So when I set the ram to 2.6volts, it ends up as 2.7 and change when I hit the desktop in XP or check in the bios.

I haven't verified which is the more accurate with a DMM, simply because the points on the mobo to measure from are a little difficult for me to get to without pulling the mobo, and the instructions I found here don't specifically list exactly what you are supposed to do with the probes (shows a couple of ground points, but which one to use?).

Since my knowledge of electronics theory etc is based on highschool courses nearly 30 years ago, I'm reluctant to experiment with this if only to prove or verify something that works fine if I keep in mind to set vdimm .1 below rating to start with. But it reminds me that I'd like to take some courses on this if I could find some that are part time or night school.

Sounds like you are on the right track though. Auto it, quick memtest for stability and then let it into xp to see what the auto gives you. Then you're back in the bios to take things off auto, a couple at a time and memtest inbetween. Then ratchet up the HTT till you hit a wall, and play with the tRC, tRFC, MAL and drive strength maybe to get a little farther. I've even gone back to auto at this point, and sometimes has got me past the wall because it flipped one setting that I must have been overlooking.

If you keep getting stumped, definately test the sticks one at a time to see if one of them is really holding you back.

You should give that new bios a decent chance, work with it for a while. But if you are getting nowhere with it maybe going baclk to the other one is best.

The main thing with this ram is that loosening timings at high frequencies will gain you very little if anything, nor will more voltage. I think any gains you get at that point will have to come from other settings.

Looks like somebody had a great weekend. Three different system OCDB's A_G? You rock dude!

lol that aint all really...I'm still digging screenshots off the server...look in the Stock SPeed Database...must be 8 entries alone today (remember that each SSDB entry is a minimum of 24h!)

between those bunch and these 3...and hell...I am not even close to being done lol...

I do have my own Opteron 146, but I've just not had the time to really get down with it...since it IS an unsupported cpu...

but that aint even the big reason (as you know I love mobiles and such)

the big reason is this 3200+ Venice E6 that I have had forever and it is a supreme overclocker (2750Mhz hit on EVERY board I have EVER put it in easily except for the CFX3200-DR but I'm having Frank send me a second one).

With a cpu that I know for a fact will hit 2750Mhz on every board...that's my baby...my test monster...and I just haven't really been all that interested in an Opteron that will do about the same (I got the second best stepping code if you believe in that sort of thing).

Couple that with the fact that overclocking and computers in general have just....been ultimately boring lately...I guess it is a good thing I went and got an Intel Pentium D 930 and had Ace send me an Asus P5WD2-E board and fooled with it.

Makes me all excited for Conroe...and I of course am excited for AM2...but computers in general have just...been sorta stale...but now I can feel myself getting back into them a bit....plus the moderators have a new little hardware pool going where we'll pass around the really good stuff to each other and we'll all have 2 weeks to test it then send it on to the next guy etc....that should make things not only interesting, but that should add a bunch more DB posts here and in teh SSDB as well as generate some new interest in teh Recommendations section etc.

blah blah blah Happy_Games...stfu you boring little %!@#@! lol

^^ Love the name change :D

I know the boredom feeling.. I'm currently in the downward part of the cycle. Got a new gfx card and it pipped me up for about 5 days but now I'm sick of clocking and back into my classic movies/tv shows and trying to get a 100% headshot ratio in bf2 (fat chance lol I'm such a n00b).

I guess it's a case of "what does a soldier do after the war?".

You know, that really is some interesting insight into the life of a paid overclocker. I think some people wouldn't realise it would get like that. I know my own personal interests go in cycles, all of them eventually fading in the brightness of a new interest. The thing about computers is there is always new technology to keep one occupied when one gets stagnant with one thing or another. But that only works for pleasure or entertainment, not work; for work we must forage ahead with the same old, some of us lucky enough to work with computers and enjoy the odd upgrade in software and hardware if the field moves fast enough.

I really like the idea of the hardware pool you guys are doing, yeah what a kick that could be! With enough people and stuff, no two weeks would be the same all year lol! I remember trading accounts a lot in an mmorpg that was getting stagnant, our guild was having a riot playing each others characters. It was pretty funny because in player vs player we sucked very bad since we didn;t know how to properly operate the class we'd be running. It was good fun, breathed a lot of fresh life into what was getting old fast.

No, I didn't know you liked mobiles. You grow up in a trailor park? Son of the weekend trailor park supervisor? :tooth:

That Venice sounds very interesting, and I can see the huge benefit that can be. Definately a keeper, a precious hierloom! Damn, to think you can almost judge a mobo to be faulty if you can't hit 2750... unreal. Excellent.

ah...you know the feeling lol

others see us saying this stuff...and it blows their mind...it's like when you and I hear porno stars say "oh man having . with all these hot chicks all day long...it just gets to be a grind (no pun intended lol)" and we think "WTF IS THIS GUY SMOKING!!!??"

ya know, this is something I hadn't thought about in a LONG time...since back in teh ANCIENT days of Age of Empires...

my first little clan...we all played someone we really were good with (me = Choson!!!)

and we'd get bored and so we'd go play another race/civ for a while and it really did spice up the game quite a bit because you are right, when I played Hittites or Egyptians, I really really sucked really bad haha...but it was a spark.

Sometimes we just need a spark ya know...I think that Asus P5WD2-E Premium was the spark...or maybe it was the Intel cpu and Crossfire X1900XT's on the Intel...

No, I didn't know you liked mobiles. You grow up in a trailor park? Son of the weekend trailor park supervisor?

hahaha...I definitely really grew up 'white trash'

we were poor...if it wasn't for grandma...we'd never have a Christmas...
