OldGuy Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 Just picked up this board and the shipping bios is 7/28/04...Seems a bit sketchy with slightest overclock with regard to my USB mouse (keeps losin/lockin up). Is there a "better" bios I should flash to? Perhaps one of the betas?
Guest Tmod Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 Most seem to be running the 6/19 version. I am running the 11/24/2004 version without any problems. Tmod
schar07 Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 I am now running 6/19 quite happily after testing all of the official BIOS and i saw your same issue in the past. I just have 1 minor issue left: it seems with SATA ctrl but i'm still working on it. 7/28 did freeze with my Creative Audigy2 while playing audio, and it is no longer available for download from official DFI BIOS page.. 11/24 resulted in a consistent no boot, so i steered away. However, if you flash, follow exact guidelines from DFI, or Angry_Games on this Forum. Specifically load optimized defaults, reboot and wait until the CMOS is backed up, then shutdown, let discharge for 20 secs and finally flash from floppy. I currently have a BIOS Saviour which saved me from an RMA when testing 11/24. Using WinFlash corrupted my BIOS chip once. I wouldn't go for betas or modded BIOS unless having a Saviour and 6/19 on it. Schar07
Shinobi Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 Think i might flash to the 6/19 and give it a whirl... Currently using the 7/28 myself which came shipped with my board. Old Faht, can you let us know how you go on with the 6/19 compared to the 7/28. The only difference between 7/28 and 6/19 is Sempron Support but it seems that theres more to it than that... I'm a bit wary as to why they've pulled it from the initial downloads page too.
Shinobi Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 Well just flashed to the 6/19 and i can see an improvement straight away. My Vcore always seemed a bit "erratic" when looking at it with MBM5 and seemed to fluctuate quite a bit. Doesn't now Think i'll keep testing with it but so far i'm glad i made the switch. Temps are good too. "Diode" Temps doesn't seem to fluctuate quite as much as they did with the 7/28. Currently at 27°C Case, 30°C CPU, 37°C Diode with my 2500+ Mobile currently running at 2.36ghz. DFI have removed the 7/28 for some reason, as i've been saying for the past few days, any official word on why? Anyway, you can still download it if you do a Google Search of the download page URL and go to Googles Cache of it. I downloaded the 7/28 Diamond Flash Image using that method, just in case... twig1 Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 how do i get new bios to go on my comp after i download it? little new at this but i can pick up quick with a little help lol
Shinobi Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 What board and specs twig1? Better to put your system in your sig then everyone knows what you've got The easiest way is to download the Diamond Flash Bios Images from the DFI site. Download it, double click on it with a fresh formatted floppy in your floppy drive and it will create a bootable floppy. Reboot and it will boot off the floppy and flash to the new bios automatically. When its finished Press F1 when it prompts you too, remove the Floppy, go straight into your Bios and Load Optimised Defaults and save... Before you flash to the new Bios its a good idea to Power Down and unplug, Clear Your Cmos for 30 seconds with the jumper on the motherboard, replace jumper to the correct place, boot your system and go straight into the Bios and Load Optimised Defaults and save. Then your ready to flash the Bios Those are the recommended steps to help prevent any possible problems from Flashing.

Shinobi Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 Yeah looks like they've removed the links to a few bios' for some reason. They are still available for download, its just the link thats missing... You can use Google Cache to bring the page up with the links before they were removed, or The Wayback Machine...
