Is dual channel ram designed differently?

Recommended Posts

Hi, the ram I was going to get for my system was OCZ Value VX, but only 512 MB. When I get another stick in about a month, will the two be able to run in dual channel? Or do I have to buy the dual channel kit for that to work?

Thanks

There is no difference in the RAM.

Dual Channel is how the memory controller addresses the RAM.

Most Dual Channel memory kits are simply two sticks of RAM packaged together.

Some Dual Channel kits are actually hand picked and tested to work in Dual Channel memory configuration. You just have to take the word of the manufacturer.

There is one truth that escapes many and is especially 'true' right now in the age of 'events' in memory module design and that is that today may have one batch of memory modules that are of the same batch and production run and a month later they may be altogether different and why it is always 'generally' better to buy all memory at one time. And I would say the more sticks you would plan to run the more important to buy at one time.

That is just a rule those of us who push things find to be true. If you run stock and buy within a months real time> you should be ok more than likely.

"Run.....s-t-o-c-k..."!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!

Is it possible to have those two words in the english language right by each other?!?!?!

I dont want to run stock, I plan to OC. Do you really think I would be screwed if I buy the second stick later?

Where did that come from? No need to shout! You never said anything about wanting to OC in your other post.

Value RAM is never a value when trying to OC.

Take a look at the sigs of other forum members that are running OC. Odds are that if they can get their system running you can too. A lot of my buds are using OCZ. RGone has been getting good results with several different brands. Search for some of his posts.
